Why do you want to be a member of the NAR Board of Directors?
Involvement is the key. I have been, over the past 7 years, and continue to be extremely involved in both the state and my local association. I have discovered that the more I am involved the more I learn. I have been faced with making decisions on many issues. These issues have shaped the REALTOR profession as well as improving home ownership in the Commonwealth. Each time I have honed my skills, added to my knowledge base, and expanded my experience level. I now what to represent our members and our home owners at the national level. I believe I have the appropriate skills, knowledge, and experience to represent them well.

In your opinion, what are the three greatest challenges the National Association will face in the next three years? Please elaborate briefly.
There are many challenges NAR will face over the next three years. The three greatest ones in my opinion are: Increasing Student Debt, Communicating Value to the Members, and Extreme Civil/Political Unrest.
Student debt: Student Debt in this country is a fact-of-life and will continue to rise as the student population rises. Millennials are the largest group of first time home buyers. This group needs to be able to qualify for a mortgage in order for the buying cycle to continue.
Communicating Value to Members: This challenge has been an issue for years and continues to be not only on the national level but also on the state and local level. REALTORS I have spoken to across the country want to know what they are getting for their membership dollars. Those of us that attend the conventions, serve on committees and are actively involved in the associations know the benefits. We however are the minority. Developing an effective/efficient communication plan is key to meeting this challenge.
Civil/Political Unrest: This challenge has been brewing for almost a decade but has become a major issue over the past 18 months or so. Even with all of the economic indicators being positive and consumer confidence appearing to be strong housing starts and home sales are stagnate or even declining in areas nationwide. Potential buyers and sellers see this unrest and it causes them to be cautious.
Are you a regular annual investor in RPAC? At what level?

I have had opportunities in my career at different size brokerages and at different REALTOR® Associations. These varied experiences have given me a unique perspective regarding diverse views on issues from brokers, individuals and associations. I am looking forward to contributing to the policy decisions that impact our profession with input from our members. My goal is to be accessible and listen to your ideas and concerns. It would be my honor to serve Virginia REALTORS® as a NAR Director.
In your opinion, what are the three greatest challenges the National Association will face in the next three years? Please elaborate briefly.
It hard to select just three when the challenges are a constant moving target.
Professionalism – We need to provide the resources, training and expectations for our member that lead to a better understanding about what it is to be a professional REALTOR and improving the public’s perception about the value we bring to the table.
Our Value Package - championing the REALTOR value proposition as technology and apps flood the marketplace, promoting the value of using a REALTOR, increasing our value to members and enhancing services.
Technology – keeping up with and keeping the edge, the influence that Artificial Intelligence will have on real estate, staying ahead of trends, leveraging technology from the agent and broker point of view.

Along with giving to The American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, March of Dimes, Samaritan House and the Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughter I have been actively involved as a founding executive board member of VB HOME NOW Inc which was created to support the new Virginia Beach Housing Resource Center due to open this month. Our goal is to provide monetary support for programs and services to make sure that homelessness is "brief, non-recurring and rare" in our cities. To date we have raised nearly 700K.

Why do you want to be a member of the NAR Board of Directors?
My local and state associations have invested valuable member resources in me over the years by placing in positions and on committees where I have had the opportunity to learn and have influence for our members in the areas of policy, benefits and services. It seems only right that the members of Virginia benefit from having a past local and state president at tables where we can have a voice.
This year I have Chaired a PAG (Presidential Advisory Group) on Total Electronic Closings to advise the leadership team at NAR on what role we should play in the evolution. Total Electronis Closings are coming and may dramatically alter the way we do business and the caution here is to constantly be aware that this is a relationship business and we must never lose sight of our role at the center of the transaction. I am also Vice Chair of State and Local Issues Policy Committee, a member of Smart Growth Advisory Board and Public Policy so having those opportunities for Virginia to be engaged in the disccussions through my participation should be a win win and I want every member to know that I will carry the messages/concerns to NAR through these committees and as the 2022 Regional Vice President. I humbly ask to be re-appointed as an NAR Director
In your opinion, what are the three greatest challenges the National Association will face in the next three years? Please elaborate briefly.
NAR Strategic Priorities as recently released lays it out perfectly for us! We need to redouble our efforts in advocacy and regulatory monitoring and be the watch dog on issues coming our way, educate our members on the importance and increase our consumer awareness of what it is we are doing and how it affects them. Advance Member and Consumer Communication which demonstrates relevancy, have a consistent message, partner within our communities to promote Realtors as community leaders and dig deep to find the issues that are affecting our communities and homeowners. NAR's stewardship and ownership of our data needs to be adaptable to change and new partnerships to maintain our position as the source of all things real estate and keep up with the rising tide of change. Our members need a committment from NAR that their business will be enhanced by the latest technologies. And last but not least to enhance the member experience, raise the bar on professionalism and provide the lastest tools and processes to make our members successful!
Are you a regular annual investor in RPAC? At what level?
I have contributed yearly from my very first year in the business as a Golden R, President's Circle member I was inducted this year into the Hall of Fame.

To The Virginia Delegate Body
When Deborah Baisden asked me to write a letter of recommendation for her, I did a double take.
After getting over the initial shock, I was humbled as Deborah has been my mentor and friend for the
past 5 years.
At my first meeting, she came across as a genuine, caring, professional human being who listened.
We hit it off from the get go. When we met the next time she recalled our conversation and asked
pertinent questions. This demonstrated that not only did she listen she remembered. She was not
making small talk to pass the time, she genuinely cared.
As I got to know Deborah, and met her at various VR and NAR events, she guided me, a newcomer to
these events. She sought me out and made sure I was alright, introducing me to others so that I felt
included. Deborah has been a confidant and mentor as I took on more leadership at NVAR. The more
I got to know Deborah, the more I wanted to emulate her. She is the consummate professional, who
speaks her mind and cares passionately about the Realtor family. She volunteers her time selflessly
to improve professionalism in the industry.
Words can not describe my resounding support of Deborah Baisden as my representative, and the
representative for Virginia Realtors at NAR! She will continue to make us proud.
Best Wishes

Having the opportunity to serve as an NAR Director is truly multi-facetted. For example, the awareness of the many issues and trends that challenge our industry. Or the many friendship made across our country; and the knowledge gained because of those friendships. And the opportunity to first listen and then be a voice for our members. I wish to serve as a director, because I’m not finished yet; I have more to offer. My responsibility is to listen, to learn what the needs and concerns of our members are, and then to use that knowledge to ensure that the decisions made benefit all. I want to continue to serve; I want to continue to be involved, and I ask for your support.

In your opinion, what are the three greatest challenges the National Association will face in the next three years? Please elaborate briefly.
NFIP: National Flood Insurance Program. Recently, our representatives in Washington extended the program through November. While this extension helps; it is not an adequate solution. The intention was that the extension would allow re-authorization and restructuring of the program for the long term. NAR must stay at the forefront and help craft any proposed legislation; because the impact on our industry is too significant to ignore.
The revamping of Freddie and Fannie Mae: To ensure a strong and reliable home financing environment, NAR must participate in this effort and stress the importance of government backing of these entities. Offering secondary markets for mortgages is essential for capital for lenders. Without a viable secondary market, interest rates would continue to rise, housing would become even less affordable and the economic imbalance would have a straining impact
Member Engagement: All levels of our association struggles with this issue. What is the most effective way to communicate, how do we engage members and what is our value proposition? I don’t believe we do a good job of telling our story, so we need to be better story tellers! We need to express at every opportunity what it means to be a member of the largest trade association in the country! As NAR strives to be more transparent, I believe a greater understanding will emerge; but, of course, this is and will continue to be an ongoing process.
Are you a regular annual investor in RPAC? At what level?
Yes have been an investor for many years and beginning in 2007 I became a major investor. I currently am a Golden R.

Virginia Realtors Delegate Body
It is sincere honor to endorse Claire Forcier-Rowe for the position of National Association of Realtors
Director from the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a long standing elected Director representing Virginia I
have had the pleasure of watching and working with Claire over the last 5 years. I have been impressed
with her knowledge of the issues and her ability to articulate these issues to the members. As Virginia
Realtors President she represented our association professionally and with a level of confidence that can
only come from having a grasp of the responsibility that comes with the office.
I believe the best way to judge future performance is to observe how a person handles themselves in
the positions they have been in. I have no doubt that Claire will study every piece of business that will
come before the directorate and vote for what is in the best interest of NAR and me as a member. It is
for these reasons I unequivocally support Claire and ask you to vote for her as a Director.
Thank you

Why do you want to be a member of the NAR Board of Directors?
At the encouragement of my first broker, I have been involved in my local Association since I've been a Realtor in 1994. I've served in various capacities and on various committees (too many to recall from the last 24 years). It is my way of giving back to the Association. This eventually led to my involvement on the state and then national level committees. The journey has been a wonderful experience and I have grown leaps and bounds because of it. Through my service to my local and state, I would like to do more and serve on the national level. I am extremely passionate about my industry and love the direction the National Association of Realtors is going as it relates to the membership. I very much want to be a part of this. Therefore, I would appreciate the opportunity and would be honored to serve in the capacity as a Director for the National Association of Realtors.
In your opinion, what are the three greatest challenges the National Association will face in the next three years? Please elaborate briefly.
***I can say more, but here is the skinny**
1. Improving member involvement and engagement. We have approximately 1.3 million membersand maybe 10% or less are involved/engaged on the national level. I have also seen the lowinvolvement/engagement on the state and local levels. During my term as President at VPAR, my goalwas to improve our member involvement and engagement to events, classes and committeevolunteering. We were able to improve this in some areas, but I wanted more. I also see this at thestate level. And I know that the state leadership team have been making all efforts to increasemember involvement/engagement.2. Staying at the forefront of technology. Technology is a constant animal that we as an Associationneed to stay out in front as much as possible. The NAR Reach program is good, but it can be better.I feel that some of the technology offered in this program, may not necessarily resonate with themembers. There needs to be more of a balance with technology that is innovative yet practical.
National Director - Page 36
3 | P a g e
3. Continuing to have a seat at the table politically. NAR has done a phenomenal job at beingadvocates for public policy in our industry. As an FPC as well as an RPMIC, I witness MOCs knowingwho we (Realtor Party) are and respect our efforts. I want us to continue with having that kind ofrelationship and being in the position that when a real estate related issue comes up, the MOC (ormember of his/her staff) reaches out to the FPC or our NAR lobbyists for information and guidance.Virginia Realtors has been extremely successful at this, and I would like to see more of the same onthe national level.
Are you a regular annual investor in RPAC? At what level?
Yes, I am an annual investor in RPAC. I give at the $250 level. I missed my mark last year, but I still gave because I believe in what RPAC stands for and have seen the return on our investments.

Why do you want to be a member of the NAR Board of Directors?
It is important that our NAR Directors are informed, engaged and knowledgable, about not only the issues that face our profession and our organization, but about the history and challenges to the future of our organization. I feel that because I have the relationships, knowledge, passion and background, I am indeed that kind of Director. I want to use my time and talents to benefit our association and I look forward to serving.
In your opinion, what are the three greatest challenges the National Association will face in the next three years? Please elaborate briefly.
1) The massive influx of private equity into real estate is changing, and will continue to change ourprofession. Companies that may never have flourished based on their business alone now haveoutside capital to invest in technology, and new business models, often, without expectation of nearterm return. This will change the playing field at an unprecedented speed.
2) NAR will have to be the leader in changing our associations at all three levels to better reflect thenimbleness and service that today's agents demand - this will require boldness and proactive planning for the challenges and pressures facing agents and brokers.
3) The ultimate battle for NAR is to win back and build the trust of members and earn and build therespect of the consumers. Members need to believe that membership in NAR is not a "must" for MLSaccess but instead it is a necessity for the preservation of our profession and private property rightsin our country. We must regain the preeminence in our industry and our rightful voice as the truedefender and protector of homeownership.
Are you a regular annual investor in RPAC? At what level?

RE: Nomination of Mary Dykstra, NAR Board of Directors
It is with pleasure that I nominate Mary Dykstra, currently a Director of the National Association of
Realtors, to continue to serve an additional term in this capacity. Mary brings a wealth of experience from
her many years of REALTOR involvement at the local, state and national levels. She is very dedicated and
well respected and will continue to do a tremendous job representing Virginia’s Realtors at our National
level.
Mary has first hand experience as an active Realtor with 30 years in the business. She is recognized
as a successful professional, currently an owner/partner at MKB, REALTORS specializing in residential and
commercial real estate. Her high visibility and reputation within our industry led to an appointment in 2015
by Virginia’s Governor Terry McAuliffe to serve on Virginia Housing Policy and Advisory Council.
Speaking as a Past President of NAR and a lifetime Director myself with 46 years in the business, I
recognize Mary’s talent and dedication to our profession and our Realtor Associations.
Not only does Mary have a terrific day-to-day grasp of the real estate business, she has tremendous
insight. She brings the additional experience that comes from her many years of association leadership
starting in 2005 as President of the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors and their Realtor of the Year in
2008, as President of the Virginia Realtors (2013) and Realtor of the Year (2014). Over the past 11 years
Mary has actively participated at the National level both serving on and chairing numerous NAR committees.
She is currently (2018) NAR’s Liaison for Community Engagement, an appointment by NAR’s President
Elizabeth Mendenhall.
In summary, Mary Dykstra is a professional; she actively participates in our business on a day-to-day
basis and will give 100% of herself as an NAR Director on behalf of all Realtors and their clients/customers.
Should you require additional information about Mary, do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Tom

Why do you want to be a member of the NAR Board of Directors?
It is an honor to be an NAR Director from Virginia and it is also a proud responsibility to take on. There are a lot of challenges ahead of our industry in years to come in technology as well as Realtor's perceived value from consumers. I refuse to take the back seat but to be responsible for the future of our own career and industry. I am very fortunate to have a strong network with leaders around the country. At the same time, I have received great Realtor's support from across the state. That encourages me to take on as much responsibility as the trust that I earned from colleagues. And, that is my main reason - I owe it to those who trust me.
In your opinion, what are the three greatest challenges the National Association will face in the next three years? Please elaborate briefly.
The biggest challenge that NAR will continue to face is the increasing laws and regulations that are harmful to Realtors. We have witnesses more and more policies or bills targeting the real estate industry or homeowners. This won't slow down a bit. Secondly, the rapid change of consumer's behaviors and perception of Realtor's value in the real estate transaction. This will require Realtors to adapt to the new normal and at the same time, NAR will need to adapt to new member's demands as well as membership.

Third, technology continues to improve the transparency and the speed of real estate transactions. The challenge that NAR will face is we are not in the technology business. Yet, Realtor members expect NAR to take the lead to win over many other tech companies who are aiming to take over this industry.
Are you a regular annual investor in RPAC? At what level?
I am a regular Major RPAC Investor at $1,000 level and have a 10 for 10 YPN Pledge.

Dear Members of the National Association of REALTORS® Delegate Body,
As Chairman of the Board of the Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS® (NVAR), it
is my pleasure to recommend Thai Hung Nguyen for election to the Board of Directors.
We believe Thai has the skill, experience, and knowledge to serve as an NAR Director. Thai
comes with extensive experience as he served on various NVAR forums, such as chairing the
Global Business Forum and the Vietnamese Realtors® Forum. He has also served as a member
of our Board of Directors and as an NV/RPAC Trustee for 2 years. Thai is also a member of the
Asian Real Estate Association of America. His dedication to success has consistently shown in
achieving Multi-Million Dollar Sales and Top Producer status year after year. On the state
level, Thai is currently serving on the VR Board of Directors and has served on the VR Annual
Convention Work Group, the Information Management Committee, the Award Selection
Committee, and has graduated from the Virginia Leadership Academy Class. On the national
level, Thai has served on the Diversity Committee, Member Communications Committee, the
State and Local Issues Mobilization Support Committee, and has graduated from the National
Leadership Academy Class. Currently he is a member of the Local Leadership Idea Exchange

To Whom It May Concern:
It is my honor and pleasure to endorse Thai Hung Nguyen as a Director for the National Association of Realtors’ Board of Directors. I had the pleasure of meeting Thai at our local association where he was always an enthusiastic volunteer willing to serve on any committee where his services were needed. Having served on committees with him, I know that he is an active participant and contributes to the discussion.
As part of Thai’s application, you have been made aware of his contributions to the Realtor community at the local, state and national level. While they are many and quite impressive and definitely are the types of experiences that are beneficial as a National Director, Thai has done much more to promote Realtors. His work in his local community is a testament to the type of individual Thai is. From working with Boat People SOS to other organizations that promote the Vietnamese American culture, Thai is dedicated to making life better for those in need.
Many of you have worked with Thai for some time now and realize the contributions he makes. I respectfully request that when you compare candidates, you look at the breadth wand width of Thai Hung Nguyen’s experience and you will conclude, as I have, that he will represent the Realtors of Virginia extremely well.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Trish Szego NAR Director President, Virginia Realtors 2012

REALTORⓇ Licensed in VA & DC
BRIEF BACKGROUND
I have been a Realtor since 2003. I am leading a team comprised of 5 professional Realtors
licensed and practiced in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Being a professional Realtor is taking
care of a client's real estate needs on a full time basis with integrity and passion. Focusing on professional
development is always the key to consistently provide a high level of service to my clients. I am passionate
about protecting the real estate career that I love and the homeowner’s benefits by collaborative effort and
involvement at the associations.
Graduated from George Mason University with major in Management of Information System, I
worked in the web development for 5 years prior to committing myself to real estate career. This gave me
a love of technology and how it intertwines with business.
My volunteer time at Realtor’s Associations from local to state and national levels helped me learn
from other Realtor peers as well as team up with them to raise professionalism of the industry. The
leadership academies (Virginia & National Association of Realtors) that I was fortunate to be a part of help
prepare and empower me to be a dedicated leader to others and for others. On the other hand, being on the
Board of Directors in all levels of associations (Northern Virginia, Virginia, and National) strengthens the
Realtor’s relationship I have built across the state and the country as well as widens the knowledge and
future of real estate business.
My business belief is that every client is my family. That shows in every one of hundreds of real
estate transactions I have personally achieved. I have gained the utmost trust and confidence from not only
my clients, but also from fellow agents.
My caring for clients is inspired from my loving family including my wife, Zhen, and 2 boys,
Austin & Zachary. We form a happy family, and are always true to ourselves. I truly enjoy the time with
my family and pays utmost attention to family values.
