Staging the Azalea Festival – every year for seventy years – is a real community effort, and everyone who works on, participates in, or simply enjoys the Festival can be proud of these honors. They are a positive reflection on the greater Wilmington area as well.

The North Carolina Azalea Festival’s mission is to encourage volunteerism and civic participation as it contributes to the region’s economy. In 2011, the University of North Carolina Wilmington completed a year-long study on the economic impact the Azalea Festival has on the City of Wilmington. Results of this study concluded that the Azalea Festival has over a $50,000,000 impact on our local community annually.

The North Carolina Azalea Festival is Wilmington’s annual community celebration and the largest festival of its kind in the state. Founded in 1948, the Azalea Festival has emerged as Wilmington’s premier event.

The Festival’s concerts, fairs and special events are attended by 300,000 people. More than 200,000 are estimated to attend the annual three-day Street Fair, while more than 100,000 gather to watch the Festival Parade. Each event is a celebration, beginning with the traditional arrival of Queen Azalea at the official opening of the five-day event. Stars glitter throughout town as Southern belles and their escorts promenade through lush gardens at the annual garden party. Everywhere the blooming azaleas offer colorful testimony to the rich heritage of coastal Carolina.

The mission of the North Carolina Azalea Festival is to be nationally recognized as a showcase for our community’s rich array of artwork, gardens, history, and culture through recreational, educational, and family-oriented events. The Festival encourages volunteerism and civic participation as it contributes to the region’s economy and promotes the unique qualities of Wilmington’s river-to-the-sea community.

PARADE TITLE SPONSOR The Azalea Festival Parade continues to be one of Southeastern North Carolina’s largest annual event, with over 100,000 viewers each year. Our traditional parade route flows right through the heart of Historic downtown Wilmington. YOUTH ART CONTEST SPONSORThe Youth Art Contest is an annual contest showcasing the amazing artistic talents of the youth in our community. Over 300 students register their artwork in the contest. Winners receive tickets to Festival events as well as other notable prizes.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM SPONSOROver 1,000 volunteers plan and put on Festival events. Your logo will be included on volunteer t-shirts, ad or logo included in our volunteer newsletter, special recognition at our Volunteer Appreciation Event (catered party with music, food, and bar for all volunteers after the Festival) with signage, table at event check-in, and speaking opportunity, as well as the opportunity to speak at 2 Operational Committee Meetings. SCHOLARSHIP PAGEANT SPONSORJunior high school students from area high schools compete in this annual Scholarship Pageant based on a private interview with judges, evening gown competition and on-stage presentation. The winner is the recipient of the Beverly Anne Jurgensen scholarship award.

AZALEA SWEEP SPONSORThe Azalea Sweep is one of our largest volunteer-driven events that takes place a week before the Festival. Community volunteers join together to clean at various locations where the Azalea Queen will be visiting during her reign. After the Azalea Sweep, all of the volunteers enjoy a party with refreshments.

BOXING COMPETITION SPONSORThe Boxing Tournament is a free, two-day event held in Historic Downtown Wilmington. This event showcases some of the finest boxers from high-level competition and the military.

HIGH SCHOOL WRITING CONTEST SPONSORHigh School students from New Hanover, Pender, and Brunswick counties are invited to submit either a descriptive essay or poem using a prompt.

MAIN STAGE RELIEF STATION SPONSOR The Main Stage Concert Series attracts thousands of people for nationally headlining performers. Be a part of this experience by sponsoring the Restroom Area: partnership includes (2) 3x10 banners outside the Restroom Area and 2 banners in the Restroom Area with product sampling ability within the concert grounds. AZALEA FESTIVAL YOUTH COMMITTEE (AFYC) SPONSOR The Azalea Festival Youth Committee (AFYC) mission is to develop future leaders of the community by supporting the mission of the North Carolina Azalea Festival. AFYC members are local high school students who fundraise and volunteer for the Festival.

Funds are donated or raised for the students to enjoy the opportunity of marching in Parades like the Azalea Festival. RIVERWALK SHAG CONTEST
