• Relevant stakeholders, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, the scientific community, the private sector and philanthropic organizations, whose work is relevant to the 2020 UN Ocean Conference, accredited in accordance with the provisions set forth in Annex II of A/RES/73/292 can request registration to participate as observers in the Conference and its preparatory meeting

Who can participate at the 2020 UN Ocean Conference?

✓ ECOSOC accredited(Special, General or Roster consultative status);✓ And organizations that were accredited to attend the following:

❑ The World Summit on Sustainable Development;❑ The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development;❑ The 2017 high-level United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of

Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development;

❑ The intergovernmental conference on an internationally legally binding instrument under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction;

❑ Previous United Nations conferences on sustainable development of small island developing States, held in Barbados, Mauritius and Samoa.

❑ Organizations that have received special accreditation by Member States to participate in the 2020 UN Conference and the preparatory meeting. First round of special accreditations finalized in December 2019. Second round open now!

Who can participate at the 2020 UN Ocean Conference?

• Who must apply for Special-accreditation?• Civil Society Organizations not in consultative status with ECOSOC such as• NGOs• Private Sector• Universities• Foundations• Academic Institutions

• Organizations must apply by 10 March 2020

• Special-accreditation application requires the following documents• Proof of Legal Status in the country where the Organization is headquartered• Annual Report reflecting the relevant work of the Organization• Letter from the Head of the Organization / Expression of Interest

• Individuals may register following notice of accreditation (approval of Member States for the Organization's participation)

Registration Process

• Representatives of accredited organizations MUST request pre-registration using the appropriate online forms.

• Pre-Registration will open mid-February. Deadline: early May.

• Information will be posted here: https://www.un.org/en/conferences/ocean2020/participate

❑ Registrations via email will not be accepted.

❑ Registrations in loco will not be accepted.

❑ Incomplete registrations or with insufficient documentation will not be accepted.

❑ Registrations past the deadline will not be accepted.

❑ Number of representatives per organization will be informed accordingly.

UN Global Compact High Level events in connection with the 2020 UN Ocean Conference

Co-hosted with other UN organizations and Member states, these 5 high-level meetings will convene key ocean players from several sectors to define an agenda to reach the 5 Tipping Points for a Healthy and Productive Ocean. The proceeding page contains further relevant information.

#RebootTheOcean event, in collaboration with UNTIL, takes place at the beach outside of Lisbon. Young programmers and scientists gather for an Innovathon to improve upon or build new software using open data and tech concepts to address the ‘5 Tipping Points for a Healthy and Productive Ocean’’. Mentorship and interactive meetings will take place during the event.

Evening

The Action Platform will organize a reception to celebrate the first day of the Conference. The networking reception will gather key players from the private sector, UN heads, activists, influencers and entrepreneurs. More information is to follow.
