    Come one and all to our Park Picnic, brought toby the Alabama Hill Neighborhood Association.Well supply the entres Salmon Burgers Hot Dogs - Soda. As is our tradition, we askneighbors to bring a pot luck dish to share,

    rounding out a great park meeting. We ask folksto bring their plates and cutlery as well to help uskeep our costs down.

    This meeting is also part of the National NightOut Against Crime being celebrated inneighborhoods all over Bellingham.

    On the agenda for this meeting will be a visitfrom our new Mayor Kelli Linville. Shell bethere at 6 PM for a short stop on her way aroundto the other Night Out events.

    Volunteers are needed to help in a variety of ways including, set up andbreakdown. Please call or e--mail Chair Dean Haskins, or any Board Memberif you have a Barbeque to loan out for a few hours or desire to volunteer inany way.

    Corn and Black Bean Salad

    (From Food to Live By by Myra Goodman

    JulyRecipe

    1 can (15 oz.) black beans, rinsed and drained 1 c. uncooked fresh or frozen (thawed) corn

    kernels 1 large ripe tomato, cut into inch dice

    about1 cup 1 small red onion, cut into inch dice about

    cup 2 TBS. finely chopped fresh flat-leafed parsley 2 TBS. minced garlic

    2 TBS. white wine or white distilled vinegar c. extra-virgin olive oil

    1 tsp. chili powder tsp. ground cumin

    1 tsp. sugar tsp. salt tsp. freshly ground black pepper

    1. Place the black beans, corn, tomato, onion, andparsley in a large bowl and stir gently to combine.2. Place the garlic, vinegar, olive oil, chili powder,cumin, sugar, salt and pepper in a small bowl andwhisk to combine.3. Pour the dressing over the bean mixture andtoss to coat. The salad can be kept at room

    temperature for up to 6 hours. The recipe caneasily be doubled or tripled. ENJOY!

    Perfect for a picnic or a summer barbeque, thissalad is easy to throw together at the lastminute. If you want to make the salad in advance,dont add the dressing until its almost time toserve.

    The Alabama Hill Association is a neighborhood association open to all residents within the boundaries of Alabama Hill.

    If you are receiving this newsletter, you are a member. An annual $20 donation per family is suggested. The year of yourlast donation appears after your name on your address label. The monies collected are used to pay for mailings and the entreat the annual picnic held in August. Those of you who have attended know it is a good deal!
