USC’s young cross country team under the leadership of sec-ond-year head coach David Freeman was led by juniors Katerina Berdousi and Jenna Tong, and seniors Erica Capellino and Kira Soderstrom.

Berdousi really stepped up this season to become USC’s top run-ner, after not competing in cross country as a sophomore and run-ning in only two races as a freshman. Tong and Capellino, USC's top runners the past two seasons, continued to be key members of team. Soderstrom had her best season of cross country and kept improving throughout the year.

Freeman introduced a talented six-woman freshman class and transfer Reika Kijima into the mix and seems to have laid a solid foundation from which to build the program.

The Trojans defeated crosstown rival UCLA 27-28 in the Dual Meet at the Rose Bowl on Oct. 9, the team's fi rst win since the 2012 Aztec Invitational. Berdousi cruised to a 22-second victory with a time of 17:21.00, the fastest by a Trojan since Zsofi a Erde-lyi set the school 5K record of 16:51.90. It was the sixth-fastest 5K time ever by a Trojan woman. Five Trojans set a 5K PR at the meet.

USC placed 11th at the Pac-12 Championships held in Oakland behind a 48th place fi nish (44th in scoring) by Capellino, who had a 6K PR of 21:24. USC then went on to place 19th at the NCAA West Regional hosted by Stanford. It was USC's highest fi nish at the Regional since the 2008 season. Berdousi led the way for the Trojans with a personal best time of 21:15.7 in the 6K race. It was a PR by 13 seconds and was the fastest time by a Trojan runner at the West Regional since Zsofi a Erdelyi ran 20:30.37 at the 2010 West Regional.

The team also excelled in the classroom as nearly all eligible team members received 2014 Pac-12 All-Academic honors as Capellino, Soderstrom, Strickland and Tong were named honor-able mention selections.

Katherine B. Loker Stadium was made possible by a generous donation from Katherine B. Loker. The 3,000-seat stadium opened in the 2001 season and was dedicated on May 5 during that year's USC-UCLA dual meet. The track and stadium underwent renovations this past winter. The facility includes track offi ces, locker rooms, an athlete lounge and meeting rooms. Loker stadium hosted the 2003 Pac-10 Championships, the fi rst time a conference meet had ever been held on the USC campus. USC also hosted the 2013 Pac-10 Championships.
