I See Jesus In a recent lesson we discussed how Jesus must be seen through us as parents, as individual saints, and especially as one of the most privileged congregations in the brotherhood. The response to that lesson, and especially the reading, I Saw Jesus, leads to these thoughts on how I see Jesus every day. First, I see Jesus in creation. The opening words of John’s gospel account states, “All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being” (1:3). When we see the beauty of a sunrise, the glory of a sunset, and everything in between, including the marvel of this

Page 5: 240 White Avenue Phone: 731-989-5161 FAX: 731-989-9822 …hendersoncoc.com/.../uploads/2017/08/MESSENGER-17-8-24.pdf · 2017-08-24 · 8 Blake White 9 Darryl Culberson 9 Tucker Cyr

week’s solar eclipse, we remember the creative power of God the Father, the Son, and the Spirit (Psalm 19:1-2). Second, I see Jesus in revelation. Each book of the Old Testament is preparing us for the coming of Jesus in the flesh, born of a virgin in fulfillment of prophecy (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23). The New Testament story begins with His life and ministry on earth, while the remaining books, Acts, the epistles, and Revelation reflect on the truth of His death, burial, and resurrection and the promise of His coming again to judge the world in righteousness. The more time we spend in the Word, the more we see the beauty of Jesus. Third, I see Jesus in imitation. When I see members of the Lord’s church, at home and abroad, loving Him, following Him, serving Him, and living for Him, I see Jesus every single day. I see Him in the purity of our little ones, the obedience of our youth, the faithfulness of our young and middle age adults, and the wisdom of our senior saints, who have worshiped and served Him all of their lives. Through their imitation of their Lord, walking in His steps, I see Jesus! Determine today, and every day, how Jesus is going to be seen through you, in your family, in your work or school, and through His beloved bride, the church for which He died (Acts 20:28). “Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in you.”

This is a busy time of year. School has started for Chester County. Freed-Hardeman is back in session. Our families are busy. Life is busy. In all things, keep your focus on what is most important: living a Godly life with honor and respect.

Here are a few things for you to know/think about:

Directory pictures As you know, our directory is electronic. This means that you can update your picture at any time. If you would like to do that, please let the office know.

eHub This past Friday, we sent out the first edition of the Henderson Church of Christ eHub. This is an upgrade from our TELL program, which is still available to be used. This program is by email. If you would like to receive this, please make sure that the office has your correct email address. We will send out new information each Friday.

University program Freed-Hardeman is back in full swing. As a church family, we should do all that we can to make them feel welcome. I remember when I came to Henderson for the first time in 1991. This church quickly became my church home, based in no small part of the members speaking to me and encouraging me. Don’t assume that someone else is speaking to these college students. YOU need to speak to them. YOU need to welcome them. YOU need to encourage them. Because, this is YOUR church family.

Bible classes The fall quarter of Bible classes will start on Sunday, September 3rd. Classes for all ages are available. If you have not been attending a class on a regular basis, this is a great time for you to consider doing so.

Bible classes help us learn and grow in our knowledge. They also allow us to participate with a great group of Christians in fellowship. Bible classes will begin at 9:00 each Sunday morning and 7:00 each Wednesday evening. Involvement There are many, many ways to be involved at the Henderson church. We have 14 outstanding elders who are charged with leading us and we have 38 deacons charged with various programs of work and service. We need as many people working and helping as we can get. Think about what you are interested in or willing to help with and let the church office know so that we can get you plugged in better.

Youth Notes

Our fall retreat is right around the corner. This year, our theme is called “Bridge.” This will be a great weekend and our hope is that you are making plans to attend. Here are some details:

Date: September 15-17

Place: Maywood Christian Camp – Hamilton, Alabama

Cost: $35 per person

Guest speakers: Aarek Farmer and Ryan Gallagher

Who can come: Anyone in the youth group (grades 7-12) and their parents

Why? Family time is important. Interactions between teenagers and their parents don’t have to be odd or strained or uncomfortable. As a youth group, parents are an important and integral piece in our growth and success. We want to include them in our retreat this year and discuss ways that we can all “bridge” the gap that lies between teenagers and their parents.

What to bring: Bible, comfortable clothes, toiletries, towels, sleeping bag and/or sheets and quilt, a positive attitude

Transportation: All 3 of our buses will be making the trip to Maywood. However, we will need parents to drive their vehicles.

Meeting: We will have a meeting about our retreat on Sunday, September 3rd at 4:00PM in the new chapel area.
