Stimulus: Why are aliens visiting our planet?

Day Activity

1 HOT SEAT!

Create 5 questions to ask this alien who has just arrived on Earth.

e.g., Who sent you here? Did you mean to come to earth or was it an accident?

Once you’ve written your 5 questions, answer them as the alien (you might want to name him).

e.g., Who sent you here? The leader of our planet sent me here to find out about humans and how they live.

Challenge: Write as an alien who speaks differently and spells some words incorrectly (hoomans).

2 This alien is from a planet called Pandora.

Think about these questions:

How far away is it? Who lives there? What’s the weather like? Who is in charge? Are they kind? What do they eat? What do they do with their day?

Write a paragraph as the alien explaining to humans what it is like there. Make sure you use adjectives to describe and give detail about how it is different or similar to planet Earth.

Challenge: Can you make sure you add some relative clauses in this paragraph?

e.g., The alien, who’s from planet Pandora, is really kind.

Planet Pandora, which is really far away, is bright and colourful.

3 Here is a sentence starter written by another pupil.

'___________ pushed open the rusty door of his sphere and peered out anxiously. He definitely wasn’t in Pandora anymore...

The character is called _______________ and he’s just opened the door of his sphere and realised that he’s crash landed onto a different planet.

TASK: Write the next 3-5 sentences to complete the first paragraph.

What does he see? What does he do next? How is he feeling? Does he meet anyone else?

Challenge: Can you add speech into this paragraph where he is talking to himself? E.g. “I wonder what’s up there?” ______________ thought to himself.

4 Today your task is to plan your story.
