MARY'S MEALS - During Lent we will collect items for the Mary's Meals Backpack Appeal and pack the bags on Palm Sunday afternoon from 2.00pm. All help welcome! Mary's Meals vision is that every child receives one daily meal in their place of education and that all those who have more than they need, share with those who lack even the most basic things. Many children receiving Mary's Meals don't have basic learning tools such as pencils and notepads. You can support them to get the most out of their lessons by donating a backpack or any of the items we put in them. For many children, a Mary's Meals backpack will be the first gift they have ever received. Since The Backpack Project began in 2005, it has captured the imagination of thousands of people. More than 500,000 filled backpacks have been sent from supporters across the UK and Ireland to children receiving Mary's Meals. What we pack in each backpack; Notebook, pencils, crayons or coloured pencils, eraser, ruler, sharpener, pencil case, towel, soap, toothpaste, tooth brush, shorts/skirt, tshirt, dress. Small ball& a spoon. Items do not need to be new. Second hand items in good, clean condition are very welcome. RED BOX THANKS AND RECEIPTS - a very big thank you to those Red Box Holders who returned and swapped their boxes in February, we collected over £1,000 for Missio and the Mill Hill Missionaries. For those whose names were written on their boxes, I will leave receipts in the porch area of the church this week-end in small brown envelopes. If you forgot to swap your box, please continue to put Lenten money into the box until the next count in July this summer and keep an eye on the announcements in the bulletin. Again, I want to thank you so very much for continuing to support the Pope's charity LENT MATERIAL 2020 - This year the Diocese is pleased to share the Lent programme from Churches Together in Britain and Ireland . PILGRIMAGE OF REPARATION AND CONSECRATION AT WEST GRINSTEAD: Advance Notice: This year taking place on Saturday 18th July 2020.

I remember leading the Stations of the Cross for a group of children in the parish some twenty years ago, shortly after my ordination and wondering how I could make sense of these carved images to people so young.

Whether or not they understood what I said I do not know. I came up with the idea that the word ‘Stations’ would be of some help, relating the word to ‘railway stations’ where people get on and off the train, moving from one station to the next.

My reasoning was that as we move from Station to Station we ‘get off’, that is, remove our everyday thoughts and concerns and ‘get on’, that is, give our focus and attention completely to Jesus and His journey to Calvary, a journey for which we must accept our part in causing it to happen.

The Stations, which we particularly focus upon in Lent, even though they are there each and every day to look to and contemplate, are a wonderful opportunity to deepen our understanding of the price that Jesus paid out of His love for us.

Here in Horsham due to the work of a master carver, we are blessed to look upon the magnificent wooden figures depicting the agony of Jesus, the sorrow of Mary, Veronica and the women of Jerusalem, enabling us to enter into the horror, but also the beauty of the sacrifice made by the Son of God.

As well as having the opportunity to walk the ‘Way of the Cross’ in our own time throughout the day, we can also join together at 7pm each Friday in Lent and on Good Friday in the morning, to walk together as the people of God.

As usual we will also have the Passion of the Lord in the Church at 3pm on Good Friday

This year we have the wonderful opportunity also to experience the Way of the Cross in a live production of the Passion of our Lord, enacted by Horsham Churches Together members from many different churches. This will take place in the Carfax at 12 noon.
