January–June 2015 Emphasis
e·van·ge·lism—ə'vanjə-lizəm (noun) - the spreading of the Christian
gospel by public preaching or personal witness.
Evangelism is simply sharing the story of the gospel with
someone who has never heard it or someone who has
never responded to it. There are many different methods
and ways to share the truth of the Gospel. Over the past
few months we have looked at a few of these methods
and equipped you to use them. As we wrap up this phase
of our vision fulfillment strategy, please continue to use
these methods daily and share with us how God is using
you to make disciples through evangelism. Also please
make plans to participate in the upcoming church wide
evangelism events that we will offer.

It’s official! Summer is here! Summertime! The livin’ is easy.
Take a deep breath...drink that glass of lemonade and be
refreshed. Consider this—Take It Outside! Plan summer days of
missions fun for neighborhood children. Learn activities at
Children In Action and Saturday Bible School and share them
with your neighborhood kids. Got a garden growing, share the
abundance with friends and neighbors. Watch for opportunities to
build a relationship. How about a garden party? Show off those
flowers...take a vase or bouquet to a shut-in. prayerwalk in a
botanical garden or zoo. As you read about the native habitat of
each plant or animal, pray for that country, unreached people
groups and missionaries. Head to the beach or your comfy
hammock and read a good mission story (A Thousand Times Yes
or Both Feet In). Please pray for our Youth as they attend camp in
July and our Ladies as they do missions at Missions CAROLINA.

According to the calendar, June is shaping up to a busy
month of ministry, missions, and opportunities to encourage
our community in the name of Jesus. After all, that is our vi-
sion right? To be Encouraging in Jesus’ Name. As a faith fami-
ly we are encouraging the world and fellow believers to Know,
Grow, and Go in the name of Christ.
But let’s face it, all of this encouraging, ministering, going, and growing can equal one word:
TIRED. In ministry, as well as life, it is easy to become tired. Jesus doesn’t use the word tired but
he talks about being tired. Jesus uses the word weary. In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus said: “28 Come
to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you,
and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” This
verse has always meant a lot to me but it has come to
mean a lot more after an experience I had while talking
with a retired pastor. He is facing some health issues
and has had his share of personal tragedy as of late.
While we talked he recalled these verses and recited
them to me. He went on to express how God was giving him rest in his later years, because as he
put it, he gets tired very easy. As this pastor shared of his weariness, I could relate. We all can re-
late. That’s why Jesus tells those who are weary, who are laboring, and who heavy laden to come
to him. He offers a rest that only he can offer. A rest for our souls. His yoke is easy and his burden
is light. It is easy; it is light; because he is right there with us. So while we may look at the calendar
and think, wow, this month is going to be busy, we would also do well to look at the Savior and
look for rest for our weary souls. Some of the best advice anyone could offer is already given to us
in verse 29. “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me…” If we truly want to find rest, if we
truly want to minister in all circumstances, and if we truly want to encourage in Jesus’ name, we
need to look no further than Jesus himself. We are simply to look to him and learn from him. I
pray you have a productive and restful month.
- Pastor Jonathan
