The Mental Health Liaison Team
Dementia Support Workers
Recruiting 6 addtional full time Mental Health Liaison Nurses. These nurses will devote their time to A&E, Terrington Short Stay and MAU and will provide the link for patients living with dementia between services such as the mental health trust and the police.
Recruitment
We now have 4 dementia support workers: 2 employed by Alzheimers Society2 employed by MIND The support workers can help with a variety of things, in the main this is supporting the patient living with dementia and their carers who may feel that they are struggling with the weight of the condition.

Mental Health Liaison Nurses
We now have more Dignity Champions and are looking to recruit further key staff from key areas to be a champion. Dignity Champions keep a watchful eye on issues concerning the dignity of patients, visitors or colleagues and are empowered to challenge any behaviour compromising an individual’s dignity.
Dementia Champions
We are only one of eight trusts in the country successful in our bid to run a new development programme for nursing staff funded by the RCN. This RCN development programme, transforming dementia care for hospitals, is a year’s programme and will support nursing staff to deliver quality improvements in dementia care.

Increased time at induction spent on dementia training.Now mandatory for all clinical staff.Unison has generously funded additional specialist dementia workshops for frontline staff.
