COMMUNION HYMNS
The Maronite Inter-‐Eparchial Music Commission has been working to provide additional communion hymns in English.
At the Altar Heaven’s Hosts is an alternative hymn to The Hosts of Angels (‘asakiroo sama) and is sung during the communion of the priests/clergy as the first communion hymn. It is a music adaptation of all three verses of the original text, whereas The Hosts of Angels was based only on the first verse.
O Christ Our Lord, the Bread of Life is a new English version of O Bread of Life (Ya Khoobzal Hayat) and includes four verses in the same order as the Arabic text.
O Loving Father of Truth (Ya Abal Haqqil Kareem) is an English version of the Arabic communion hymn composed by Fr. Joseph Khoury OLM.
At the Altar Heaven’s Hosts
1. At the altar heaven’s hosts, cherubim and seraphim, lift on high the Son of God who was sacrificed for us. Let us dare approach our God to receive his flesh and blood for the pardon of our sins. Alleluia! Praise the Lord! 2. We commemorate today all our loved ones who have died. When the day of judgment comes, place them, Lord, on your right side. May they not be on your left with the goats who know you not. We proclaim you Christ the king. Alleluia! Praise the Lord! 3. Blessed be the Lord who said: Eat my Body! Drink my Blood! I will come and dwell in you, that you may have life in me. Praise the Father and the Son and the Spirit, three in one. Let the Church for ever sing: Alleluia! Praise the Lord!

At the Altar Heaven's Hosts(Communion Hymn - Version 2)
Eng Adapt: Inter-‐Eparchial Music Commission(2013)
Syriac: bo'ooto dmor afrem 5 (Ya Salihan)
O Christ Our Lord, the Bread of Life 1. O Christ our Lord, the Bread of life and Food for souls! We sing your praise, O Son of Man and Son of God! The angels fear to gaze on you, O Lord of light. Despite our sin, we dare draw near, O Bread of life. 2. At Supper in the Upper Room your mercy flowed; you gave yourself to be our food in bread and wine. Our bodies and our souls receive this precious gift. How awesome is this Eucharist that we adore! 3. O penitents, devoutly come, receive your God. In his great love, he gives himself to give you life My God, my hope, my grace and joy, my paradise! With love may we receive you, Lord, the pledge of life. 4. May I not burn when you draw near, O Fire and Light! Forgive my sins. For I repent as Peter did. Though Judas turned his face from you, I seek you, Lord. Be food for me, O Bread of Life, for evermore.

O Christ Our Lord, the Bread of Life
Syriac: bo'ooto dmor ya'qoob (Bread of Life) Eng Adapt: Inter-‐Eparchial Music Commission(2013)
O Loving Father of Truth (Ya Abal Haqqil Kareem) 1. O Loving Father of Truth, you give us pure bread to eat. Give us, Lord, your bread of life, we ask of you. 2. Christ, the true bread, food of spirits and of life, strengthening the weak of heart, saving us when we depart. Give us, Lord, your bread of life, we ask of you. 3. Yes, I am the Bread from heaven, who came down to give the world life. Eat my flesh and have eternal life in me. If you come to me in faith, and you drink my living Blood, you will never thirst again and never die. Give us, Lord, your bread of life, we ask of you. 4. But they said in disbelief, “What we hear makes us disturbed; how can this man give to us his flesh to eat?” Yet, O Lord, where shall we go since we need you for our souls? You're the voice of truth that we cannot ignore. Lord, you are the Bread of Life Give us, Lord, your bread of life, we ask of you. Give us, Lord, your bread of life, we ask of you. Give us, Lord, your bread of life, we ask of you.
