Ladies & gentleman, your duly elected leaders for

2021

2021 Prefect Voting

Last week we conducted our Senior College voting for the 2021 Prefect Body. A remarkable number of Form 4 students, 59 in total, applied for a Prefect position. Students were required to submit a competitive Curriculum Vitae (CV) or MeVie (digital CV) as part of their application; a skill taught in Life Orientation earlier this year.

The plan to move to electronic voting this year was halted with the advent of COVID-19, and voting had to take place in Register Classes and in the Hall for our Form 3 to 5 examination candidates. Strict WHO guidelines were followed with the sanitising of hands before voting, the use of students’ own pens to vote and the Register Teachers collecting the votes from individual students to minimise movement. All went smoothly and we thank the Student Body for their mindful cooperation last week.

Our impartial Form 4 Voting Officers, Seth Berkeley, Asande Mathe, Sibu Madikizela, Su Govender, Dayle Fouche, Claire Roelofse and Lisa Floyd, played an important role in ensuring the voting process was conducted efficiently. Thank you to these students for their assistance. Report by: Mrs Donny van Zyl

Swimming: Sven will be competing in the SA Short Course event in Pietermaritzburg during the holiday 24 – 27 September 2020. This gala is by invitation only. All the different regions will have a regional gala during the end of September and then all the results will be compiled as a SA Short Course event. This is all due to Covid-19 regulations. Sven will attend the gala with Coach Mel as no spectators are not allowed. This is very exciting and a great experience for Sven. When competing at SA Short Course you get placed according to your time and not your age in the different heats for the different event. This means that he will be swimming alongside the “big boys”.

Soccer: We are very proud to announce that Julia Cropper has been selected for the WSAS International Scholarship Program on a Soccer and Leadership Scholarship. Julia is the Soccer First Team Ashton Goal Keeper and has been privately coached by Kyle McNeill of the Elite Football Program here in Ballito. Training for hours a week has been rigorous over the past few months. There are more than 2000 applications per year that apply for this WSAS program with only 200 applicants being selected this year. Women’s soccer is a fast growing sport internationally and Julia would like to study a degree at a University in the USA and play for the College team.

We wish her every success in her chosen sport. Congratulations, Julia!
