Since its launch in 1977 the Cambridge Film Festival has been recognised nationally as one of the UK’s leading film events. However, just days before we launched this year’s thirtieth anniversary Festival we received the shocking and unexpected news that our main funder, the Regional Screen Agency Screen East, had gone into administration and that the police were investigating allegations of financial irregularity. The Festival has not yet received the £19,000 of funding that Screen East had previously promised to provide in support of this year’s Festival, and we cannot be confident that we will ever get the money owed to us. We remain committed to delivering this year’s 30th Festival in all its glory, as you can see from the extensive programme, but the loss of such a significant amount of promised funding could threaten our ability to run future Festivals and other events around Cambridge. So we need your support! We started our ‘30@30’ campaign earlier this year to raise funds for this year’s anniversary festival, but now we’re asking for donations to support Cambridge Film Festival’s long term future and help us carry on presenting bold and imaginative cinema for the next thirty years. We’ll be collecting donations of £30 – or as much or as little as you can afford – throughout our 30th Festival.
