The presentation will explore the use and application of Jungian symbology; exploring two symbols and psychological concepts around the theme of ‘judgment’ and ‘justice’ through the ‘Judge’(restoring order and providing justice) and the archetypal symbol of ‘The Statue of Liberty’ (enlightener, illuminator, and upholder of justice). Their role within psychic development and their symbolic relationship to the offender client group will be explored through examining a selection of Sandplay Therapy trays. The anima development for the male offender will be particularly explored, introducing Jungian approaches to the psyche and archetypal symbol formation. The presentation aims to highlight the differences between Art Therapy and Sandplay Therapy and assist other arts therapists in utilising a symbolic approach to forensic psychotherapy.
