Madam / Sir,

The o bjective of the SCheme for Compassionate Appointment is to grant appo intmenton compassionate grounds to a dependent family member of a Gove rnment servant dying inharness or who is retired on medical grounds, thereby leaving his familyinpenu ry and withoutanymeans of livelihood. Itistore ieve the familyof the Government servant concerned from financialdestitution and to help itget over the emergency.

2. Keeping, in view the objective of the SCheme, the existing ins tructions relating toCompass ionate Appointment have time and again been reviewed/modified /simplifiedso that thesystem finallyderived at shall be more transpare nt, efficientand unifonn in nature .

3. The efficacy of the SCheme is bas ed on its transparency. It is this aspec t, which isforemost and hence while considering a request for appo intment on compassionate groundsby a Committee. a balanced and objective assessment of the financial cpndition of the

family has to be made taking into cons ideration its assets and liabilities and all other. relevant factors such as the presence of eaming member; size of the family. ages of the

children .and the essential needs of the family etc. This is done to assess the degree ofindigence among all the applicants cons idered for compassionate appointment within theprescribed ce ling of 5% of the direct recruitment vacanc ies.,4. .
