ViscosityHigherviscosityofaliquidresultsinstrongdropletscohesion.Therefore,morepressureisneededtoatomizetheliquid.However,theinfluenceofviscosityisverycomplex.Undercertaincircumstances,higherviscositycanincreasetheflowrateeventhoughthepressureremainsconstant.Sometimestheoppositecanbethecase.Theactualeffecthastobedeterminedforeverynozzleunderitsspecialoperatingconditions.

    5. Surface tensionInordertocreatedroplets,notonlyviscosityforceshavetobeovercomebutalsosurfacetension.Incontrasttoviscosity,however,surfacetensiondoesnthavesuchastrongeffect.Still,itisacodeterminationfactorintheformationofdroplets,sinceitonlychangesslightly.Increasedsurfacetensioncausesthedroplet,formedthroughliquidatomization,tobemorecohesive.Theresultsarelargerdroplets.

    6. TemperatureAllinformationthroughoutthiscatalogrefertoawatertemperatureof21C.Nozzlefeaturesdontchangewhenthetemperatureischanging.Yet,temperaturechangeshaveaneffectonamediumsviscosity,surfacetensionandspecificgravity.These,inturn,changethespraydata.

    - The spray angle is reduced for very high pressure ratios since the axial velocity componentincreasesmorethanthedeflection component.-Lowpressureratiosorlargersprayratios causethesprayangletoslideoffsideways.-Thesprayangleofliquidsmoreviscousthanwaterwillbesmaller.Liquidswithalower surface tension than water will increase the spray angle. -Criticalrequirementsshouldbetreated individuallywithregardstothespecialneeds of the user.

    Sizeandcontributionofdropletsaredeterminingfactorsforsprayquality(degreeofatomizationandefficiency).Itises-peciallyimportanttohavetheproperunderstandingofdropletsizespecificationswhenitcomestocriticalapplicationssuchasgascooling,treatmentofhazardouschemicals,gaswashing,spray-drying,combustion,anddustsuppression.

    Dropletsizeisgiveninmicrons1m=0.001mm.

    Sauter Mean Diameter (D3.2)-Itsratioofvolumetothesurfaceareaisequaltothatoftheentirejet.Itisaveryaccuratetoolwhenitcomestodeterminingratiosofevaporation,reaction,orcombustionprocesses.

    Volume Median Diameter (D3.0)-Itsvolume,multipliedwiththenumberofdroplets,equalsthevolumeoftheentirejet.

    Mass Median Diameter (D0.5)-Itdividesthejetintotwoequallysizedparts.
