Two Leaders Council Examples

Back in the 90’s there was an ongoing debate about horse riders wearing helmets. It was a strenuous debate and for several months a group of leaders would show up and vote to require helmets followed the next month by a group of leaders voting to overrule the previous vote. It was finally resolved by State 4-H and the County insurance people

Last months Leaders Council with 15 people present voted to follow 4-H State Show Dress Code allowing livestock kids to wear colored shirts and not requiring the mandatory white show shirt.

The Leaders Council Suggestion (vote) was taken to Fair Board where there was not agreement. I was asked by the board to send out a survey to Leaders.

I sent out a Survey Monkey and received 57 responses of which 30 said stay with white and 27 said change.

I will report this to the Fair Board for a final determination.

The most important concern is that Leaders Council does not have structure and there is no way to know who may attend on any given month or even what may be discussed.

MARKET SALE

The Market Sale is not a place to experiment. Animals are judged based on the current National market. We do not have exotic or niche animal types. An example is a request to start selling Alpaca’s for consumption. There is no conforming National market and therefor the answer was no. Exhibitors are hereby on notice that if you decided to show a breed that does not produce the yield types expected by a national standard then they will be judged with a white ribbon and not sell.
