A Text A Day Thinking Fast

Antonio often like to walk downtown and look at the display in the show windows.

One night while he was walking leisurely along the street, quite suddenly, he noticed a reddish glow in the upper window of a grocery store. He ran promptly to the nearest fire alarm box.

Soon the firemen arrived. The trucks stopped at a corner near the store. As some firemen fastened a large hose to the nearest fire hydrant, others nimbly climbed a long ladder to the upper window of the building and trained their very long hoses at the burning store.

In a short time, the fire was put out. Many lives and property were saved. Thanks to Antonio and the firemen who acted quickly.

What adverb tells us how long the action is done?

The group of words that answer these questions are called adverbs of duration. They tell us how long the activity is done. We use time frame that indicates the duration or longevity.
