Prabhat Pheri began and culminated at Bus Stand, Katra after passing through Ban Ganga Road, Dak Banglow, Shalimar Garden, Chintamani, Hanuman Mandir and Main Bazaar Katra. On the occasion of eighth Navratra, Chief Guest, Shiv Kumar Sharma Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council and President of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association inaugurated the Prabhat Pheri in presence of Guest of Honour, Narender Singh Jamwal SHO Railways Katra. Katra town, the Base of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine is witnessing Prabhat Pheri daily these days as this event has been added first time in Navratra Festival and within few days it has become famous like anything. It is believed that Prabhat Pheri invokes the good spirits and chases the evil spirits, further welcomes the morning with good vibrations. Senior officers of civil and police administration includ- ing devotees and locals took part in Prabhat Pheri which was arranged by Navratra Festival Prabhat Pheries Committee Katra with sup- port of SMVD Shrine Board and J&K Tourism Department. Today Bobby and group of Chintamani Mohalla joined the Prabhat Pheri and infused more enthusiasm to it. Senior citizens forum led by Dr. Sukhdev Singh, Mubark Singh and Sunder Sharma and other members also joined the Prabhat Pheri. The Chief Guest said that such Prabhat Pheri symbolis- es purification of the atmos- phere besides highlighting spirituality as it breaks bad habit and form new habit which are conducive to health and life. Chairman Navratra Festival Prabhat Pheri Committee Katra Raj Kumar Padha highlighted the fast growing popularity of the event and said that such a thing will def- initely bring peace in the State and hope that we should follow the footsteps of Maa Maha Gouri by shunning the evil forces and purify our souls which will lead us to the path of virtue and inner power. STATE TIMES NEWS UDHAMPUR: Minister of State for Tourism, Priya Sethi on Thursday reviewed the performance of various departments, here at a meet- ing of concerned officers. The meeting was attended by ADDC Arvind Sharma, Chief Education Officer J.R. Bhardwaj, Chief Horticulture Officer Brij Vallabh, Assistant Floriculture Officer Pawan Kumar, Assistant Director Tourism Shaziya Rehman besides Principals of various colleges. The minister took detailed review of educational scenario in the district, stressed on close monitoring of schools and other institutions. She also took stock of implemen- tation of schemes under Education, Tourism, Horticulture and other key sectors. The minister also reviewed the status of work of school buildings and upgrading of educational infrastructure taken up under SSA, RMSA and other schemes. She directed the officers to work with full dedication and show promptness in resolving the grievances of the common masses. Later, the Minister inspect- ed Jakhani Park and directed for its renovation and further beautification. He asked for creating more facilities and extensive landscaping for attracting maximum number of visitors and tourists to the park. Priya Sethi also inspected Fruit Preservation and Utilization Extension Centre (Processing unit) of Horticulture Department. The CHO apprised the Minister about various activi- ties undertaken by the depart- ment at the centre. He informed that the centre pro- vides free one month train- ing to the youth in food pro- cessing and preservation of fruits. The Noora sisters have given their voices to the beautiful and melodious songs of Dangal, Sultan, Jab Harry met Sejal, Highway, Philoori, Tiger Zinda Hai etc. The programme began with lightening of the tradi- tional lamp by the duo singers in presence of SSP Reasi Tahir Bhatt, SSP Shiv Kumar Sharma, Addl. SPs Naresh Singh, S K Nazar, Chief Education Officer Bishan Singh, Prithpal Singh, Subash Bhardwaj, Kulbir Honda, Vivek Tuli, Yog Acharya Swami Yoga Nand ji Maharaj, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Virender Kesar, Ajay Kotwal etc. In the quarter final, out of 15 contestants, six qual- ified for the semifinal including Sukhjinder Yamla from Amritsar, Kabul Bhukhari from Mumbai, Swaran Lata from Jalandhar, Varsha Jamwal from Jammu, Mohinder Soni from Jammu and Sargam Sharma from Jammu. Three contestants were kept in the waiting list including duo singers Rashpal Singh and Karpal Singh from Punjab, Sushmita from Jammu, and Arushi Kalas from Udhampur. The six winners will com- pete with the first position holders of daily preliminary round competitions in the semifinal. The Devotional Song Competition was adjudged by the panels of experts including Noora Sisters, Prof. Anupama Sharma, Lecturer Music Govt. Degree College Parade, and V.K Sambyal , former Director All India Radio. The proceedings were conducted by Rakesh Wazir - the Chairman of the com- petition. STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: The Legal Metrology Department (LMD) has recov- ered Rs 1.27 lakh as penalty during series of market inspections conducted in the current month. As per an official spokesperson, to check unfair trade practices during the Navratras festival, the team headed by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba, Ajay Kumar Verma, along with other staff members conducted extensive checking of busi- ness establishments at Bari Brahmana, Jatwal, Swankha Morh, Vijaypur, Barjani, Ghagwal, Rajpura , Shri Chichi Mata Temple and adjoining areas. The team inspected Industrial units, provi- sional stores, karyana shops, sweet shops, welding works, hard- ware stores, general stores, bakery units, flour and rice mills. The team also inspected temporary stalls of eatables and Prasad installed at different religious places in view of Navratras festival. In all 27 business establishments were Challaned for violation of Legal metrology Laws and Rules. The department booked two flour mills for packing less quantity in the net 10 Kg bag and for non declaration of date of packaging. The department also booked a paint Industry, Chocolate Powder Industry and Insecticides units at Bari Brahmna for violating the labelling norms. The Department also seized the Packages of flour being used during fast of Navratas festival, Rose Sarbat, superfine synthetic Vinegar, Poha, Water pump, Desi Ghee at Supwal, Vijaypur and Jatwal respectively and issued Challans for not mentioning all the mandatory declarations by the product manu- facturers . After series of correspondences with the Company rep- resentatives and on their request and assurance not to repeat the fault in future, 20 Challans of the Booked traders were compound- ed and a penalty of Rs 1.275 Lakh was imposed on them, while notices were issued to the remaining traders for attending the office of the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba for fur- ther Legal proceedings. STATE TIMES NEWS KATRA: Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, (JKAACL) in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra on Thursday organised a Yuva Kavi Goshthi at Matrika Auditorium of SMVDU, here. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor SMVDU was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Prof. Shiv Nirmohi, an emi- nent Hindi poet presided over the programme. STATE TIMES NEWS REASI: Expressing deep concern with unemployed youth, ex-MLA and NPP President Balwant Singh Mankotia warned the pri- vate companies operating in State to provide employ- ment to local youth or face action. He blamed that private companies are violating the State employment norms and have engaged labourers from outside the State neglecting local skilled youth. Leading the Haq-insaaf Yatra started for separate Jammu state on Thursday which reached Gool-Arnas area of Reasi District Mankotia addressed various rallies. While addressing the large gathering at Gool, Mankotia said it is unfortu- nate that private companies carrying construction of railway track have engaged labour from outside the State and neglected the skilled local youth and debarred them from employment. He warned the private companies to provide employment to local youth otherwise face action and party will provide support to local youth to seek employment. Mankotia blamed that local administration and government has failed to protect the right of skilled youth of hilly areas. These officers are hand in glove with private companies and neglected the local youth and didn't take care of them which forced them to lodge a strong protest for their genuine right. It is the duty of the gov- ernment and local adminis- tration to ensure employ- ment to local youth and if any private company vio- lates the the norms, neces- sary action should be initi- ated against it as per State law, asserted Mankotia.
