The Elim Pentecostal
Church, Huddersfield, was
formed in 1 931 with a
message of salvation and a
demonstration of the Holy
Spirit’ s presence in
Pentecostal power.
We are an international
congregation of all ages,
spreading the good news
of Christ in our services,
through small groups, and
out on the streets. Our
Sunday morning services
offer you the chance to let
the Word of God impact
your l ife and meet others in
a friendly atmosphere of
both fellowship and worship
with a full range of
children’s activities from a
crèche to a teenagers’
group. We are a servant-
hearted church, providing
practical care in the
community and touching
those on the fringes of
society, including refugees
and those with drug and
alcohol problems. Our
desire is to see people grow
in their faith in Christ in our
wide variety of weekly
meetings for all ages, areas
and ethnic backgrounds.
There is something for you.

events and activities at the

2 March 201 6 encounter
When Huddersfield University's Christian Union moved from having a
“mission” week to having an “events” week it was a game-changer. In that
moment everyone got it. Mission is more than meetings. Mission is not
something you roll out for a week and then pack up again. Mission is not
just about events (though events are important). I t’s not just about invites
(though invites are necessary). It’s not just about evangelistic meetings
(though people need to hear the gospel). Our mission is bigger than
meetings. It is to help bring people into a living relationship with Jesus
Christ and every part of our lives can be used by God for that great goal.Pastor Mark Stone
Many years ago at a Christian training
conference I was given a domino that i s sti l l on
my shelf above my desk. Wri tten on i t are the
words “l i fe on l i fe”. Imagine a row of
dominoes l ined up for a domino ral ly. Each
domino stands upright ready for the start.
The fi rst domino fal ls and starts a chain
reaction that continues as each domino
touches the domino in front – and so every
domino fal ls. We rub shoulders with people
every day. Our l ives touch theirs. We impact
one another. Our mission is “l i fe on l i fe“.
Mission is not primari ly events or invi tes. I t’s
about a l i fe that has been moved by Jesus,
moving others to Jesus.
As a church our mission is our purpose. I t’s
why we are here. We want to help bring
people into a l iving relationship with Jesus,
growing to “love God, His people and His
world”. Everything must serve this purpose.

Prayer Ministry
I t' s wonderful to see how prayer
ministry in our church is developing
and growing. I t provides a safe place
where you can be prayed for, and
where people can grow in their
gi ftings. Our ministry team are
avai lable during our Sunday morning
services – please do make use of
them, don' t hold back from coming
forward for prayer i f you have a need
and would l ike someone to stand
alongside you in prayer. We can
encounter God in powerful ways
through prayer ministry.
I f you feel you have a heart for this
ministry do speak to Linda Daniel or
Pastor Michael Reid.
Being “missional” i s organising our resources,
budgets, l i festyles, time, talents, structures,
programmes, presentations, careers, clubs,
hobbies, marriages, fami l ies and friendships
(and anything else I ’ve missed!) around that
mission!
Church is (among other things) a people who
are on this mission together. Li fe on l i fe,
together. Leading people
to Jesus, together. I t’s why
we are here.
Join us this month as we
explore what means for us
as a Church to be a
“missional community”.
Ourmission is ‘life on life’. Mission is not primarilyevents or invites. It’s abouta life that has been moved
by Jesus, moving others to Jesus.

Psalm 121: 1-2
Sunday 1 3th March is our ‘Bui lding Today,
Bui lding Tomorrow’ Gift Day. We wi l l be giving
you an opportuni ty to commit/recommit to
giving towards the vision of the Church.
‘Bui lding Today, Bui lding Tomorrow’ (BTBT)
captures what God is saying to us about today
and tomorrow for the Church.
Giving towards our ‘Bui lding Today, Bui lding
Tomorrow’ fund is used primari ly to repay the
mortgage on our Grace Centre bui lding. Praise
God for the sacri ficial giving that has paid off
over two thirds of the purchase price – that i s
£900,000 from the cost of £1 .3mi l l ion.
Why is giving to BTBT important?
Our mortgage repayments are £5,000 per
month. This captures the ‘Bui lding Today’
aspects of this fund. The other aspect i s
‘Bui lding Tomorrow' . We need to be looking
ahead about what God wants us to do in the
future. A generous gi ft has recently enabled us
to improve the Grace Centre entrance with glass
doors, for example.
As God bui lds His kingdom, we need to look
beyond paying off Grace Centre’s mortgage as
wel l as being committed to finishing that task,
hence the ti tle ‘Bui lding Today, Bui lding
Tomorrow.’
So we sti l l have the last bi t of £400,000 to pay
off on our mortgage, as wel l as future bui lding
projects we’d love to explore that further the
work of God through our Church.
Bui lding together is what God is cal l ing us to
do. Some have given sacri ficial ly for years. I
want you to know that God wi l l bless a cheerful
giver, and encourage you to continue and,
where possible, even increase your giving as
God leads you.
Others have not been able to be part of our
journey from the Greenhead Col lege days.
However, you can be part of the journey going
forward.
How can your giving make animpact?
Our regular giving to ‘Bui lding Today, Bui lding
Tomorrow’ is about £3,000 a month. Yes, there
is a shortfal l of about £2,000 a month for our
mortgage payments. This has been made up by
one-off gi fts to ‘Bui lding Today, Bui lding
Tomorrow’ throughout the year and especial ly at
our ‘Bui lding Today, Bui lding Tomorrow’ Gift
Days.
Our payments can break down to:
• 1 0 people gi ft aiding £500 per month;
• or 50 people gi ft aiding £1 00 per month;
• or 200 people gi ft aiding £25 per month.
In Nehemiah the wal ls of Jerusalem were bui l t
wi th everyone doing their bi t, smal l or large.
Everyone has a part to play, giving according to
what God has given them. You may be able to
be one of 20 givers or one of 200. What real ly
matters i s that we are al l bui lding together for
today and tomorrow.
On the day, we wi l l make standing order and
gift pledge forms avai lable. Please prayerful ly
consider what God is cal l ing you to give and
commit to ‘Bui lding Today, Bui lding Tomorrow’.
