A MESSAGE FROM FR. JEFF
Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,
How good it was to be able to celebrate Mass in church with people in the pews. One parishioner wrote me, "Thank you to you and all those who helped to make St. Peter's a safe place to worship. I feel very comfortable coming to Mass, and how good it feels to be able to pray with our parish members." I was also so grateful that we could celebrate the RCIA (Rites of Christian Initi-ation of Adults) and the Sacrament of Confirmation on Pentecost Sunday as well. Of course, Mass is not risk-free, and we definitely still need to be mind-ful of important health and safety precautions. To be honest, while masks are not required, I was kind of surprised that less people wore them than what I would have thought. I know they can be bothersome, but I highly encourage you to wear one while we're all at church together. Also, please be mindful of social distancing, both in our movements and in finding a seat apart from others. Remember, too, that the obligation to attend Mass is still lifted, so no one is bound to attend. Now might not be the right time for you. If you have-n't seen our "back to church tutorial," you can find it on our parish website and Facebook page.
On another note, the other day a parishioner brought back a copy of "Letter to a Suffering Church" to the parish bookshelf in the narthex entryway. Not only did this prompt me to remind you that we do have that bookshelf that you are free to take from, but more importantly to say that if anyone is still struggling with the abuse scandal (though we never should be "over it"), my door is always open for you to come speak with me about that or any other concern. While I certainly don't have the answer to everything, I want to be there to listen and pray with you.
Thank you to all of you who have been supportive of the parish and of one another in these last difficult months especially. We know that there is still a lot of need out there. So even though we might be entering into "summer mode," may we always be ready to serve. Know that there are many people from the parish ready to help with any need.
Let us continue to pray for one another as we grow as disciples together.

NEWS AND EVENTS Need-based Scholarships Awarded for Students to Attend
a Private School
The Northwest Ohio Scholarship Fund has announced that they have awarded a total of 620 scholarships including 108 new scholarships for the 2019-2020 school year. The eli-gibility scale for these scholarships is based on the National School Lunch Program and all of the fami-lies receiving the scholarship are at the 270% poverty level or below.
The Northwest Ohio Scholarship Fund (NOSF) provides privately funded scholarships to students from low-income families in grades K-8 to attend a private school or for homeschool expenses.
Students can receive up to $1,500 per year for tuition or $500 for homeschool expenses. Families must reside in Allen, Crawford, Defi-ance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Henry, Huron, Lucas, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Richland, Sandusky, Sene-ca, Van Wert, Williams, Wood and Wyandot and are required to pay a minimum of $500 towards their tui-tion.
NOSF has been awarding scholar-ships since 1999. Deb Gehring, whose family has been in the pro-gram since 2011 and has three chil-dren using the scholarship this year, said “if not for NOSF my children would not have been able to attend Christ the King School in Toledo.”
Interested families can find more information about the program and apply online on the NOSF website atwww.nosf.org. Once awarded, families can renew their children’s scholarship each year if they meet the income eligibility requirements and can also add siblings. A PILGRIMAGE TO
THE HOLY LAND
Join Father Jeff McBeth for a memorable 11 Day trip to the Holy
Land October 12-22, 2020. We will walk the actual places where
Jesus walked and taught in Jerusalem, Capernaum and Galilee. We
will see where Jesus was born in Bethlehem, grew up in Nazareth
and was crucified at Golgotha. Our Pilgrimage will include all this
and much more. Info pamphlets and registration forms are
available in the Parish Office or in the Information Center located in
the Narthex. Registration deadline is July, 2020.
Sunny Skies and Warm Greetings to You All, Normally, I would just put this out to the Prayer Chain people, but in this instance I'm sending to all newsletter recipients to reach more pa-rishioners. This probably should have been included in the newsletter anyway, but just reached us today. The Huron Helping Hands Food Pantry Is especially in need of the fol-lowing 3 items: 1. canned peas 2. canned tuna fish 3. boxes of macaroni and cheese If you are able to donate any of these items, please put them in the Golden Shopping Cart in the HUMC Welcome Center and Phil Bar-bour will take them over to the food pantry. Or you can drop off the items in the Narthex bins. During the past few weeks, pantry clients have been allowed to visit twice a month (rather than the usual once a month) to better help these struggling families meet their needs of food and daily essentials. And because of the pandemic, Meijer may not offer the Simply Give program again until possibly September. Simply Give is one of the best resources for stocking the food pantry, but it's not happening for now. Contributions from our outside groups using the church building are essentially non-existent since the building has been closed. Our next "official" Pantry Sunday isn't until June 21st, but please help now if you are able. Any and all donations are very much appreciated. Thank you. Beth Anne McFarland

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS
Ready for His Return
Where is that guy with the rainbow wig holding a “John 3:16” sign in the end zone at NFL football games? Younger readers may not have any idea what I am talking about! You used to see this guy on TV all the time wearing “Jesus Saves” shirts and holding his sign. Most thought he was a harmless guy, but now he is serving multiple life sentences for taking hostages at a hotel near LAX in 1992. His name is Rollen Stewart and he believed — and continues to believe while in prison — that Jesus’ second coming is imminent. His ex-treme actions were meant to make people take notice and listen to him. Now he sits behind bars, and most in the world see his name as nothing more than an answer to a trivia question.
It is a sad story when people hurt others or use extreme methods in the name of God. Mr. Stewart’s belief that simply getting people to listen to his message is the most important step in their salvation is misguided. His poor stewardship should stand in stark contrast to our good stewardship. Our ac-tions, seasoned at times with our words, should be the evidence people need to see the transformative power of Jesus Christ. We do believe that he is indeed coming again. But once you have committed yourself to him and live in his life on earth, when he returns is not our main concern. We are ready whenever that time comes, and hopefully, we can help others be ready as well by our example.
