STORY BEHIND THE RETIREMENT LOGO…
The 1981 cartoon aircraft drawing below, is the original drawing by Paul Weiser, of the 4ACCS.
The R.I.P. (Rest In Peace) Patch was designed by another of the 4ACCS, Greg Ogletree. Greg, was towing with the idea, turning Paul’s drawing upside down, replacing each eye with an “X”, then adding a tongue hanging out of the mouth, to represent that the EC-135 had “expired”. The lightning bolt (borrowed from the SAC emblem) in its belly was to allude to the fact that it was SAC who made the decision to “kill” the unit. The “Tango Uniform” (T and U in the phonetic alphabet stands for "tits up"), which represents a phrase used by aviators to signify being dead as in lying on one’s back with "tits up".
The 4ACCS mission had a lot to do with winning the cold war, since the EC-135 had the capability to launch ground based minuteman missiles from the air. Airborne Launch Control Center (aka ALCC), as well as run the war from the air West Auxiliary Command Post (aka WAUXCP). Since the United States is now friends with everyone and there
was no longer a mission for the 4ACCS, as relates to the cold war, and the squadron was deactivated in 1992, we became “Victims of the Cold War Victory”.
The tail #10262 - Every flying squadron has an aircraft noted for “2 Sick 2 fly”, and is used for parts on other aircraft. On occasion, if a 4ACCS aircraft was unable to fly a mission, the aircraft “2 Sick 2 fly”(10262) aircraft may have flown. In Paul’s original drawing was titled, “The Day of Their Return”. ____________________________________________________________________________________

Reminisce with old friends and members of the 4th Airborne Command Control Squadron as they share their photos and news articles of their memories of the years they spent with the squadron at Ellsworth AFB, just outside Box Elder, SD. This video is dedicated to the men and women of the 4ACCS who are no longer with us.
A special Thank You to all who served with the 4ACCS from April 1970 until the deactivation in October 1992. Also to your families and their support. Too all who made this video possible…………………............ THANK YOU for contributing.
