Dear Parents

I felt it important to take a moment to celebrate our wonderful PTA. As you are no doubt aware, the latest PTA event—the Winter Ball—raised over £13,000 towards Fort Dair! This is the latest in an impressive list of achievements of the Dair House PTA.

In my eight years as Head here, I have been extremely fortunate to have worked with highly dedicated and energetic PTA committees with dynamic and creative Chairs, Treasurers and Secretaries.

The PTA organises many wonderful events which we all enjoy, from Family Fun Day in September through to Camp Out Night in July. They help with match teas, potential parents and the second hand uniform shop. They meet in school every half term and outside of school in between times.

As we look forward to the forthcoming Dads’ Curry Night and the building of Fort Dair, I think I should say thank you to all of our excellent PTA committees who have contributed to making Dair House such an enjoyable school for us all.

World Book Day on Thursday was a spectacular success. We enjoyed a wonderful assembly by Year 5, followed by the inimitable Mrs Ford as Super Worm. We also learnt it was the 19th World Book Day.

Everyone dressed up in super costumes as their favourite book characters.

On Tuesday 29th February we were lucky enough to be visited by Disney Teaching Artists from the Lion King who delivered a ‘Rhythm of the Pridelands’ workshop to the choir. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning how to move and dance like animals from the show and were inspired by the wonderful singing of the teaching artists. By the end of the workshop they could sing in Zulu and had mastered some of the real choreography and singing from the opening ‘The Circle of Life’.

The workshop truly whet our appetites and on Wednesday we set off on a trip to the Lyceum Theatre to watch the real Lion King and see the choreography and music in action that we had learnt the previous day. The whole show was awe inspiring and with wonderful seats, we felt like we were in the Savannah as the puppets and wonderful animal costumes passed right by our shoulders.

The choir all behaved impeccably for the two days and have been a real credit to the school. In fact I received a fantastic email from the Disney Education department saying that both Amy and Felicity our teachers for the workshops had contacted her to say that ‘they were made to feel so welcome and that Dair House school had a wonderful caring and nurturing feeling about it and that the pupils were enthusiastic, confident and well behaved’

I can’t wait to put everything we’ve learnt this week into our choir rehearsal!

Two Year 4 teams represented Dair House at the Gayhurst netball tournament on Tuesday. It is a lovely tournament with lots of games and new teams all playing five minutes each way. Both of our teams did well with some super goals from Roshni, Lowri and Grace. Special mention goes to

Rosalind in Year 3 for a particularly super shot. The girls organised themselves well, changing positions for each game and I saw some lovely passing. We need to keep working at spreading out and getting free, but it was wonderful to see such improvement from the girls. Our first team won the Bowl Competition. Well done all of you.

Football v Thorpe House

It was brilliant to see how well our fencers have developed since we first started fighting Davenies! Our captain, Georgia, started in Year 3 when she scored lovely, delicate hits; now she has developed into a seriously

aggressive swordsperson and the boys at Davenies quickly learnt respect for our girl! Ajai, as our next most senior member, is also a super serious fighter. Our gallant Year 4 quartet: Jack, Jeremy, William and Grace were unphased about fighting the Year 5 and 6 boys and again the improvement was clear to see. Nick and Alec, who were enjoying their first taste of a match, were wonderful as our the judges.

This week the Kindness Cup was awarded to Sumair Gupta in Reception for being very helpful when he offered

to put away the toys.

Two teams played a thrilling football match against Thorpe House on Tuesday. Josh was captain of the B team and

he played extremely well, scoring our only goal. For the A team, we saw some very good passing and striking from Luke and Liam. Our midfielders, Jack and Tim played some super football and there was also the usual fantastic goalkeeping from Jai.

Well done to the following children who received Work of the Week :

All of Year 3 for creating sweets for Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

Grace Bull in 4SF for her detailed patchwork bag.

All of Year 4 for their pop-up books in DT.

Thomas Haywood in Year 5 for his geography research.

Maddy Sterling and Kiera Wise in Year 5 for their excellent sketches.

Georgia Bielec in Year 6 for her clay Greek columns.
