Rathbun honored for winning 300th career game SOURCE:Jason Rathbun, Head Baseball Coach, 866-0300, Ext. 2228HERKIMER, NY - On Sunday, May 18, 2014 Head Baseball Coach Jason Rathbun won his 300th career game against Erie Community College, defeating the Kats 11-3 in the Region III Semifinals.

Rathbun is currently in his 11th season with the Generals, accumulating a 333-126 record to date, making him the winningest coach in our programs history. Under his guidance Herkimer has one four regional championships in 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2014, resulting in three third place finishes in the national tournament.

Helping Rathbun to the milestone was 41 wins in 2014, which was a record for the program. The team amassed a season-high 15 consecutive wins at one point, outscoring opponents 140-to-20. It helped Rathbun to 2014 NJCAA District A Coach of the Year honors, an award he has received four times (2006, 2007, 2010 and 2014) in his tenure. Thats not it however as he has been named Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year four times (2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013) and Region III Coach of the Year (2009) once since his inaugural season in 2005.

Just when you thought Rathbun had done it all, the coach added another notch to his belt in 2015. On Wednesday, April 22nd of this year the Herkimer Generals baseball team was announced as the best team in the nation, receiving the No. 1 ranking by the national office. It was the first time the baseball program had ever received a poll nomination that high in its history. Helping the team to that consideration was 11 consecutive wins at that time, a number that has more than doubled since then with Herkimer reaching 23 consecutive wins as of yesterday (5/1/15) with a sweep of SUNY Adirondack.
