Instructions for Care and OperationThe computer is quite rugged, but it can be damaged. To pre-vent this, follow these suggestions:

Dont drop it, or expose it to shock. If the computer falls, thecase and the components could be damaged.

Keep it dry, and dont overheat it. Keep the computer and powersupply away from any kind of heating element. This is an electri-cal appliance. If water or any other liquid gets into it, the computercould be badly damaged.

Avoid interference. Keep the computer away from high capacitytransformers, electric motors, and other strong magnetic fields.These can hinder proper performance and damage your data.

Follow the proper working procedures for the computer. Shutthe computer down properly and dont forget to save your work.Remember to periodically save your data as data may be lost.

ServicingDo not attempt to service the computer yourself. Doing so mayviolate your warranty and expose you and the computer toelectric shock. Refer all servicing to authorized service person-nel. Unplug the computer from the power supply. Then referservicing to qualified service personnel under any of the fol-lowing conditions:

When the power cord or AC/DC adapter is damaged or frayed. If the computer has been exposed to any liquids.

If the computer does not work normally when you follow the oper-ating instructions.

If the computer has been dropped or damaged (do not touch thepoisonous liquid if the LCD panel breaks).

If there is an unusual odor, heat or smoke coming from your com-puter.

Safety Information Only use an AC/DC adapter approved for use with this computer. Use only the power cord and batteries indicated in this manual. Do

not dispose of batteries in a fire. They may explode. Check withlocal codes for possible special disposal instructions.

Do not continue to use a battery that has been dropped, or thatappears damaged (e.g. bent or twisted) in any way. Even if thecomputer continues to work with a damaged battery in place, itmay cause circuit damage, which may possibly result in fire.

Make sure that your computer is completely powered off beforeputting it into a travel bag (or any such container).

Before cleaning the computer, make sure it is disconnected fromany external power supplies, peripherals and cables (includingtelephone lines). It is advisable to also remove your battery inorder to prevent accidentally turning the machine on.

Use a soft clean cloth to clean the computer, but do not applycleaner directly to the computer. Do not use volatile (petroleum

distillates) or abrasive cleaners on any part of the computer. Do not try to repair a battery pack. Refer any battery pack repair or

replacement to your service representative or qualified service per-sonnel.

Note that in computers featuring a raised LCD electro-platedlogo, the logo is covered by a protective adhesive. Due to generalwear and tear, this adhesive may deteriorate over time and theexposed logo may develop sharp edges. Be careful when handlingthe computer in this case, and avoid touching the raised LCD elec-tro-plated logo. Avoid placing any other items in the carrying bagwhich may rub against the top of the computer during transport. Ifany such wear and tear develops contact your service center.

Polymer Battery PrecautionsNote the following information which is specific to polymerbatteries only, and where applicable, this overrides the generalbattery precaution information.

Polymer batteries may experience a slight expansion or swelling,however this is part of the batterys safety mechanism and is not acause for concern.

Use proper handling procedures when using polymer batteries. Donot use polymer batteries in high ambient temperature environ-ments, and do not store unused batteries for extended periods.

Battery Disposal & Caution

The product that you have purchased contains a rechargeablebattery. The battery is recyclable. At the end of its useful life,

under various state and local laws, it may be illegal to disposeof this battery into the municipal waste stream. Check withyour local solid waste officials for details in your area for recy-cling options or proper disposal.

Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replaceonly with the same or equivalent type recommended by themanufacturer. Discard used battery according to the manufac-turers instructions.

System Startup1. Remove all packing materials.

2. Place the computer on a stable surface.

3. Insert the battery and make sure it is locked in position.

4. Securely attach any peripherals you want to use with thecomputer (e.g. keyboard and mouse) to their ports.

5. Attach the AC/DC adapter to the DC-In jack on the left of thecomputer, then plug the AC power cord into an outlet, andconnect the AC power cord to the AC/DC adapter.

6. Use one hand to raise the lid/LCD to a comfortable viewingangle (do not exceed 130 degrees); use the other hand (asillustrated in Figure 1) to support the base of the computer(Note:Neverlift the computer by the lid/LCD).

7. Press the power button to turn the computer on.

System SoftwareYour computer may already come with system softwarepre-installed. Where this is not the case, or where you arere-configuring your computer for a different system, youwill find this manual refers toMicrosoft Windows 7.

Models DifferencesThis notebook series includes different models that vary

slightly in design style, color and general appearance.Note that though your computer may look slightly differ-ent from that pictured throughout this documentation, all

Wireless DeviceOperation Aboard Aircraft

The use of any portable electronic transmission devices aboard aircraft

is usually prohibited. Make sure the wireless modules are OFF if youare using the computer aboard aircraft.

Use the key combinations to toggle power to the 3.75G/HSPA/WLAN/Bluetoothmodules, and check the LED indicator/visual indicator to seeif the modules are powered on or not (see Table 5 on page 10).

Hot-Key Buttons(Model A - Design I Only)The Hot-Key buttons give instant access to the default In-ternet browser and e-mail program, and allow you to tog-gle theSilent Modeon/off with one quick button press.

KeyboardThe keyboard (Model A) has a numeric keypad for easynumeric data input. Pressing Fn + NumLkturns on/offthe numeric keypad. It also features function keys to al-low you to change operational features instantly.

Function KeysThe function keys (F1- F12etc.) will act as hot keys when pressed while the Fnkey is held down. In addition to the

Disc Emergency Eject

If you need to manually eject a disc (e.g. due toan unexpected power interruption) you maypush the end of a straightened paper clip into

the emergency eject hole. Do not use a sharp-ened pencil or similar object that may break andbecome lodged in the hole.

The USB 3.0 port is denoted byits blue color. USB 3.0 will transfer

data much faster than USB 2.0, and isbackwards-compatible with USB 2.0.

3.75G/HSPA Module(Models A & B Only)If you have included an optional3.75G/HSPA moduleinyour purchase option, follow the instructions below to in-stall the USIM card (which will be provided by your ser-vice provider), and then run the appropriate application

supplied with your module.

USIM Card Insertion1. Turn offthe computer, and turn it over and remove the battery

(slide the latches in the direction indicated below and slidethe battery out).

2. Locate the SIM card cover and loosen screw and removethe SIM card cover .

3. Insert the USIM card as you would into your mobile phone.

4. Slide the SIMLOCK towards the hinge (in the direction to thearrow illustrated in Figure 9) in order to release the lock and liftit up.

5. Insert the USIM card and close the SIMLOCK.

6. Lock the SIMLOCK by pushing it in the direction of the arrow inFigure 10until it clicks into the lock position.

The modules are off. Check the LED indicator and/or function key indicator to see if the WLAN/Bluetooth/3.75G/HSPA module is on or off (see Table 2 on page 8and Table 5 on page 10). If theLED indicator is off, then press the Fn + F11 (WLAN), Fn + F12 (Bluetooth)orFn + (3.75G/

The Bluetooth modules default state will be off after resuming from the Sleep power-saving state.Use the key combination (Fn + F12) to power on the Bluetooth module after the computer resumesfrom Sleep.

A file cannot be copied to/froma connected Bluetoothdevice.

Transferring data between the computer and a Bluetooth enabled device is supported in one

Mg-licherweise wurden diese bereits vorinstalliert. Ist das nicht der Fall, legen Sie die Disc ein,und klicken Sie auf Install Drivers(Schaltflche) oder Option Drivers(Schaltflche),um das Treibermen Optionalaufzurufen.Installieren Sie die Treiber in der in Abb. 11angegebenen Reihenfolge. Markieren Sie die Treiber, die installiert werden sollen (notie-

ren Sie zum spteren Nachlesen die Treiber, die Sie installiert haben). Hinweis:Muss einTreiber neu installiert werden, sollten Sie den alten Treiber zunchst deinstallieren.

Manuelle Treiber-InstallationKlicken Sie in der AnwendungDrivers Installerauf die Schaltflche Browse CD/DVDund navigieren Sie zu der ausfhrbaren Datei in dem Ordner fr Ihren Treiber.

Wenn whrend des Installationsvorgangs das Fenster Neue Hardware gefunden er-scheint, klikken Sie auf Abbrechen, um das Fenster zu schlieen. Befolgen Sie dann die

Die Module Wireless-LAN/Bluetooth/3.75G/HSPAknnennicht erkannt werden.

Das/Die Modul(e) ist/sind ausgeschaltet. Prfen Sie anhand der LED-Anzeige und/oderFunktionstastenanzeige, ob das WLAN/Bluetooth/3.75G/HSPA-Modul ein- oder ausgeschaltet ist (sieheTabelle 2 auf Seite 28und Tabelle 5 auf Seite 30). Wenn die Anzeige-LED nicht leuchtet, drcken Siedie Tastenkombination Fn + F11 (WLAN), Fn + F12 (Bluetoo th) oder Fn + (3.75G/HSPA), um das/

die Modul(e) zu aktivieren (siehe Tabelle 5 auf Seite 30).

Das Bluetooth-Modul ist aus ,wenn das Gert aus demEnergiesparmodus zurckkehrt.

Das Bluetooth-Modul ist standardmig ausgeschaltet, wenn es aus dem Energiesparmodus

zurckkehrt. Drcken Sie die Tastenkombination (Fn + F12), um das Bluetooth-Modul nach derRckkehr aus dem Energiesparmodus wieder einzuschalten.

Eine Datei kann nicht auf ein/voneinem angeschlossenenBluetooth-Gert bertragenwerden.

Die Datenbertragung zwischen dem Computer und einem Bluetooth-Gert nur in einer Richtung

mglich ist (eine gleichzeitige Datenbertragung in beide Richtungen wi rd ni cht unt ersttzt). Sieknnen eine Datei vom Computer auf ein aktiviertes Bluetooth-Gert nur dann kopieren, wenn nichtgleichzeitig Dateien vom Gert zum Computer bertragen werden. Dieser Vorgang muss zuerstabgeschlossen werden.

Die mit derPC-Kameraaufgenommenen Dateienbentigen zu viel Speicherplatz.

Videodateien, die mit hoher Auflsung aufgenommen werden, erfordern sehr viel Speicherplatz.

Beachten Sie, dass das Betriebssystem Windows mindestens 15GB freien Speicher im Laufwerk C:der Systempartition bentigt. Utilisation des appareils sans fil bord d'un avion

L'utilisation de tout appareil lectronique de transmission est gnrale-ment interdite bord d'un avion. Assurez-vous que les modulessans fil sont teints si vous utili sez l'ordinateur bord d'un avion.

Utilisez les combinaisons de touches pour basculer l'alimentation surles modules 3.75G/HSPA/WLAN/Bluetooth, et consultez lindicateurLED/visuel pour voir si les modules sont aliments ou pas (voir le Tab-leau 5 la page 50).
