FLU SEASON:
We wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone once again that flu vac-
cines are covered at no charge as a routine preventative health benefit to all plan
members. However, to help ensure proper coverage, the following steps must be
taken:
Service must be performed by In-Network Doctor’s Office
Service must be performed by In-Network Convenience Care Clinics
Service must be performed by Contracted Pharmacy
Remember when flu shots are administered in a pharmacy setting they are a
preventive service and must be coded correctly. The pharmacy needs to run
them thru their system as a medical benefit, rather than a pharmacy benefit.
Sometimes pharmacy tech’s do not understand proper procedure and run them
thru as a pharmacy benefit and will request a co-pay. Please ask them to run it
thru as a medical benefit and it should fix any co-pay issues.
AN ANNUAL SEASONAL FLU VACCINE IS THE FIRST AND MOST IMPRTANT STEP
IN PROTECTING YOURSELF THIS WINTER.

December Fun
Facts:
1) An almanac predic-
tion states that if
snow falls on Christ-
mas Day, Easter will
be warm, green, and
sunny.
2) The name December
comes form the Latin
decem for “ten”, as it
was the 10th month
in the Roman Calen-
dar.
3) The term Yuletide
comes from a Norse
tradition of cutting
and burning a tree to
bring in the Winter
Solstice. This was to
last through 12
days—later known as
the 12 days of Christ-
mas.
4) December 12th is
Poinsettia Day.
5) Saint Nickolas, who
would eventually be
called Santa Claus
was originally the
patron saint of chil-
dren, thieves and
pawnbrokers!
6) December 28th is
considered by some
to be the unluckiest
day of the year,
7) The first artificial tree
was made in Ger-
many, fashioned out
of goose feathers that
are dyed green.

During Winter, More Awareness Required On
Construction Sites:
Construction workers are required to work in brutal winter weather con-
ditions, such as extreme cold, snow and ice which can create danger-
ous working conditions. Because injuries caused by winter weather
conditions on construction sites can be costly to both construction com-
panies and construction workers alike, proper safety measures must be
followed in order to prevent these injuries. The following are some basic
winter weather construction site safety rules, that if followed, can help
prevent injuries from occurring:
1. Dress appropriately. This means wearing boots with adequate
tread, and wearing enough layers to keep you warm in order to prevent
frost bite.
2. If you observe a dangerous condition, report it to the appropriate
person, department or company as soon as possible. Often times the
appropriate person to report an unsafe condition to is the project’s gen-
eral contractor, who is responsible for job site safety. Although the gen-
eral contractor should make sure that the site is safe before work be-
gins every morning, sometimes dangerous conditions may arise after
work has begun and therefore workers should report unsafe conditions
as soon as they become aware of them.
3. If for some reason you cannot avoid an unsafe condition, take
every reasonable precaution in order to prevent harm. If you must walk
across ice or snow because there are no
alternative routes or it cannot be removed,
you should walk as carefully as possible
and pay attention to the ground below you.

James Conaway - Three year veteran with NCW
GET TO KNOW YOUR FELLOW EMPLOYEES… THIS MONTH’S
EMPLOYEE IS PLUMBER JAMES CONAWAY
NCW: How long have you been with NCW? When did you hire on?
JC: I am a 3 year veteran of NCW. I started back in August of 2011
NCW: Why did you choose Plumbing as your core trade?
JC: I started back in 1977, when I was in the Navy. I have been doing it ever since.
NCW: What do you enjoy most about the Plumbing trade?
JC: When you are good at what you do and you work hard, staying busy and constantly working are easy. Eve-
ryone needs a Plumber!
NCW: Do you enjoy your job and company?
JC: YES! NCW is a great company to work for. I find that the office is easy to get along with and they take care
of their employees. An added benefit of working for NCW is that I don’t have to take any of the stress of the job
home with me. I can go to work, do my job, and leave it there to go relax at home.
NCW: What are your future plans?
JC: After retiring from NCW, I would like to move down south, where it is warm, to Pensacola, FL.
NCW: What advice would you give young professionals interested in getting into the plumbing trade?
JC: Do research! Talk to people, watch videos on the internet, read articles, do as much work up front to make
sure that this is the trade you want to get into. It will take a lot of hours to master your skill, so make sure you
enjoy what you are doing.
NCW: What hobbies do you have outside of work?
JC: Fishing and Disk Golf. Disc Golf is a big deal for me. I have been doing it over 30 years!
NCW would like to thank James for taking the time to tell us a bit about himself. He has been and continues to
be an exemplary employee of NCW. Thanks for all you do James!
