Bom in Poland, Mr. Bukowiecki emigrated to the United States in 1963 and settled in Newark. He resided in lrvington and Hillside before moving to Manchester 10 years ago. Mr. Bukowiecki was a tailor by trade. He owned and oper- ated Edward's Tailor Shop, origi- nally located in Newark, and later, in lrvington, before retiring 15 years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Eda Shekitka; two sons, Leon and Steven; a sister. Jadzia; six grand- children and two great-grandchil- dren. The Menorah Chapels at Mill- bum in Union handled the arrange- ments. Philip Catanzaro Philip 1. Catanzaro, 85, of Red Bank, formerly of Roselle Park, died May 10 in Riven, iew Hospital, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, Mr. Catan- zaro lived in Bayonne and for 47 years in Roselle Park before mov- ing recently to Red Bank. He served in the Army Air Force dur- ing World War II. Mr. Catanzaro retired from Exxon 19 years ago after working there for 45 years. He began his career climbing the tanks and ended it as the "master blender" of the entire Bayway refinery. Mr. Catanzaro was a parishioner of the Church of the Assumption, Roselle Park, where he served as usher and lector. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society and Dad's Club. Surviving are five daughters, juuy iviiniieni, iviary somerviiie, Nancy Depau, Christine Breiden- baugh and Jacqueline Gunning; a son, Francis John; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Born in Newark, Mr. Conroy lived in lrvington and Roselle Park before moving to Kenilworth. He was a baker for Drake's Bakery, lrvington, for 39 years and retired 16 years ago. Mr. Conroy served in the Army during the Korean War. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Dolores; three sons, Darren, Dale and David; two daughters, Stacey Couzzo and Faith Conroy, and five grandchildren. Bom in Newark, Mr. Federico lived in Mountainside for 33 years. He owned and operated the GQ Hair Cutters, Springfield, for 40 years. Surviving are two sons, Richard J. Jr. and Chris; a daughter, Cheryl Rothweiler; a sister, Norma Con- soli, and eight grandchildren. The Galante Funeral Home, Union, handled the arrangements. Jennie Ficzko Jennie Ficzko, 94, of Doylestown, Pa., formerly of Union, died on May 8. Born in Newark, Mrs. Ficzko lived in Union for 50 years before moving to Doylestown four years ago. She was a seamstress with the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Newark, for 20 years and retired 40 years ago. Mrs. Ficzko was a member of the Rosary Society and a caretaker of the church linens of St. James Church, Springfield. She was a former vol- unteer in the cafeteria of St. James School, Springfield, for many years. Mrs. Ficzko was a member of the Union Township Senior Citi- zens Club. Surviving are two sons, Joseph M. and Richard S.; two sisters, Estella Curry and Genevieve Bell; a brother, Walter Otlowski; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grand- children. The Galante Funeral Home, Union, handled the arrangements. Betty Grindiinger Betty Grindiinger, 85, of Springfield died Mav 8 in Overlook Hospital, Summit. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Grindiinger resided in Bayonne and Millburn before moving to Spring- field in 1971. She was a graduate of New York University, where she received a bachelor of arts degree. Mrs. Grindiinger was active in the Parkinson support group in Moun- tainside Hospital. She was a long- time member of the Millburn-Short Hills First Aid Squad. Mrs. Grin- diinger also was a member of Tem- ple B'nai Israel, Millburn. Surviving are a son. Robert; a daughter. Gail Hughes, and a broth- er, Norman Mann. The Menorah Chapels at Mill- burn in Union handled the arrange- ments. Robert Hoffman Robert E. "Bob" Hoff- man, 91, died May 8 in Roselle. Born in Charleston, S.C., Mr. Hoffman lived in Roselle Park for 31 years before moving to Roselle in 1951. He was an outstanding football player at Roselle Park High School and earned all-state honors. After graduation, Mr. Hoff- man enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he served two tours of duty in the South Pacific during World War II. He was awarded a letter of commendation for bravery and devotion to duty under adverse conditions for his actions during the Battle of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. Mr. Hoffman worked for 46 years as an electrician at Standard Oil of New Jersey, which is now ExxonMobil, and retired in 1982. He was a daily communicant for 73 years at St. Joseph the Carpenter Church, Roselle, and offered his carpentry and electrical skills to numerous projects at the church and school. He and his wife of 46 years, Jane, were founding parents at Roselle Catholic High School. Mr. Hoffman supervised the con- struction of the school's board track that served as the springboard for the nationally renowned track pro- gram at that school. Also surviving are two sons, Robert and John; four daughters. Virginia Gilcrest, Jane Vecchione, Catherine Hoffman and Grace Mal- one, and nine grandchildren. Evelyn Klem Evelyn Polnik Klem of Roselle died May 10 in Trinitas Regional Medical Center. Elizabeth. Born in Newark, Mrs. Klem lived in Elizabeth before moving to Roselle 56 years ago. She was a telecommunications facilitator for Wachovia Bank in Rahway and Linden for 22 years and retired in 1994. Prior to that, Mrs. Klem was a switchboard operator for Pruden- tial Insurance Co.. Newark, for four years. She was a past president and Roselle-Roselle Park and a member of the Twin Boro Contact Club, Roselle. Mrs. Klem was the health advi- sor and member of the AARP Lin- den Chapter No. 1894. She also was a member of the General Pulaski Memorial Parade Commit- tee and the Senior Citizens Club, both of St. Theresa's Church, the Retired Men's Club, the Friendship Club and the Gregorio Senior Crafts Club, all of Linden. Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Joseph A.; a son, Kenneth J.. and a daughter, Deborah Klem. Victor Kostin Sr. Victor D. Kostin Sr. of Springfield died on May 12. Surviving are her husband of 36 years, William A., and a grand- child. Victor Mason Victor F. Mason, 91, of Cran- ford died on May 11. Born in Newark, Mr. Mason moved to Cranford in 1953. He retired after 28 years with General Electric Co., New York. Mr. Mason managed the Sportsman's Shop and worked for Arthur Hynes Jewelers, Cranford. He was a former scout- master in Hillside and a chairman of the parents committee for the Bov Scouts of America. Mr. Mason also belonged to the Hillside His- torical Society and the Hillside High School Reunion Committee. He was a charter member of the Hillside Knights of Columbus. Mr. Mason was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, Cranford. He served as first lector. Eucharis- tic minister, usher and sacristan. Mr. Mason volunteered many hours in helping shut-ins as part of the Good Samaritans. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Russell Mason; seven children, Joii Masorovic, Robert, Victor.
