Helene Fielder’s clay sculpture, Ocean Reef, was selected as the Best In Show at the 2015 show by judge Dr. Elliot A. Knight. Helene received a $3500 award and her beautiful sculpture became the 109th piece in the
Permanent Collection of the Bluff Park Art Association.
The Permanent Collection contains both two and three-dimensional works of art. The collection consists of each show judge’s selection of the Purchase Award, acquisitions by the association and gifts from supporters. The oldest piece in the Permanent Collection was acquired through a Purchase Award in 1968. Pieces are loaned to schools, libraries and public offices in Jefferson and Shelby counties on a rotating basis. To view a slideshow of the entire Permanent Collection, including Helene’s Ocean Reef, please visit the website at bluffparkartassociation.org
To see more of Helene’s work, please stop by her booth, Space R2, or visit her website potterybyhelene.com
2016 Bluff Park Art Show Judge
DeeDee Morrison
This year’s show judge is DeeDee Morrison, a nationally recognized contemporary metals sculptor with large art installations in 16 states as well as in Ekaterinburg, Russia. Morrison is working on the forefront of creating large-scale solar powered and LED light sculptures to communicate public priorities and vision.
As a sculptor and installation artist, Morrison says her work has been influenced by an interest in biological forms and light; coupled with the interest in the natural world and a fascination for technical and scientific advances. As a result, she has developed a unique style using heavy industrial metals, laser jet cutting methods and organically inspired intricate designs to create solar powered sustainable sculptures.
Morrison’s studio is on-site at the Wade Sand and Gravel quarry in Birmingham, Alabama. She received a degree in Economics from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. She later studied welding at Bessemer State Technical College and began to work as a sculptor. Morrison focuses on large-scale works created for architectural, urban, or landscape settings. Donations can be made in memory or honor of friends and family or as part of your estate planning. Contact Herb Patterson, Chairman of the Endowment Fund at [email protected] with questions.
