5th Prague Patchwork Meeting – „MINI-GALLERIES“
We have presented you the novelty we prepared for this year’s exhibition in one of the previous Newsletters –
galleries intended for complex presentation of a single quilter or a quilters’ group.
Not only does it represent an option to display all your quilts at one place and have your very “own exhibition”, but it also
offers you the possibility to sell some of the products, postcards, books or even quilts. Clubs are also offered the possibil ity
to promote their town or their activities.
In order to make your decision easier, we have designed for you four galleries! They are designed in a ways enabling you
to exhibit as many quilts as possible while saving costs. We believe this offer will address artists with different number of
quilts, as well as groups looking for larger presentation.

Though it is only beginning of the year, PFAFF has prepared another “Christmas Gift” for all quilters –
the sewing machine Expression 2.0).
You may find many features by this machine:
Extra large space
Dual lights
Choice of stitches made easier
Wide variety of stitches, own stitch design
IDT-system
Extra Large Space
The sewing machine will impress you with their well-conceived design, which gives you fantastic freedom of
movement and unbelievable space to the right of the needle (250 mm / 10").
Dual Lights
By PFAFF we pay attention to what our customers’ demand, which is why PFAFF came up with the dual light
system for lighting the working space.
Optimized bright lights illuminate the entire work area with no shadows.
Easy Choice of Stitches
While by other machines, customers may find it difficult to choose the appropriate stitch, by PFAFF your
choices are easy. You chose the pattern you wish to sew, put in the number of the stitch and it is done! The
machine does everything else on its own and displays the selected stitch. You do not need to think about
anything, but quilt straight away.
Memory
By all Expression machines, you have two memories to choose from. First is for the inbuilt designs (number
combinations, alphabets and patterns). The second one is for your own design, which you may use when
setting up your new stitch. I am sure you sometimes wish to change the quilting stitch by length, width,
density etc., but the setting disappears after you switch of the machine. This no longer exists by PFAFF. You
can store your stitch setting in the memory and find it again after returning to your machine.
IDT System
Only Pfaff has the original IDT integrated in the sewing machine! Absolutely even fabric feed from both the
top and the bottom. Everything stays in place when working with fine fabric or several layers. When sewing
long pieces of fabric, such as curtains, it feeds both layers evenly along the entire length. Patterned fabric
such as stripes always matches.
Many companies try to imitate feeding the fabric from top, but the result has never been quite the same as
by PFAFF.

Only PFAFF offers you to benefit from the IDT system while
using different foots including the very popular “inch foot”.
All other brands enable using the top feed only when sewing
straight, which makes it almost useless.
And why the “Christmas Gift”? From January 2011, you can
purchase the “PFAFF Expression 2.0” for the great price of
only 20 990 CZK!
PFAFF HAS NEWS FOR YOU IN 2011!
Dear quilters, I wish you all the best in 2011 and lots of joy with your wonderful quilts.

QUILT ART is a group of 20 professional quilt artists from Britain, Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Hungary,France, the Netherlands and America.
Founded in 1985, QUILT ART aims to extend the boundaries of quilting as an artistic medium and achieve wider recognition of the quilt as an art form. The group holds regular touring exhibitions in Britain and Europe and has also exhibited in Japan and Canada. A tour of the United States is also planned. To accompany each exhibition, the group publishes a high quality book.
QUILT ART strives to maintain its unique reputation for integrity of expression and quality of craftsmanship. Each member brings a distinctive approach and the work is diverse, dynamic and sometimes challenging. Professional standards are expected, both from the individual artists and as an organisation dealing with administration and liaising with galleries and the press.
In 2010 we launched two new exhibitions, Quilt Art at 25, our anniversary exhibition and A Slice of Quilt Art. These shows are accompanied by a new book.
The exhibition A Slice of Quilt Art.is showing perhaps a slightly different side of Quilt Art's members. In a long, narrow format everyone was encouraged to experiment and take risks with new forms of expression.

I believe that many of you successfully finished our Mystery Czech Star project prepared by Kimberly Einmo. All you need to know is to quilt it, creating the most wonderful result ever. I know myself that thinking about which pattern belongs to which field may be even more complicated that working on the actual top. It is not that difficult to cut the necessary number of equal pieces, but quilting them all equally may be a bit more challenging. This is why there are all sorts of quilting templates. However, it is not always necessary to buy or create a plastic template, which is easy to reproduce to each field (which may be 4 times, 8 times and very often even 16 times). If you design the pattern myself of if you intend to use it for one particular project only, we have for you a tip of how to transported onto the top quickly and efficiently.
- We draw or copy the selected pattern on a piece of paper, place it on the top and adjust the outlines with a different color so that the pattern fills up the field. In case the pattern is symmetric, it is useful to fold the paper and do the adjustments symmetrically from both sides.
- The corrected pattern is then placed on freezer paper (the matt paper side) and retraced. We also mark the major lines for sewing, the middle etc.
- We cut the motive out and slightly cut the inner lines so that pencil tip goes through it. Warning! Don’t cut it apart completely!
- The prepared motive is then to be ironed with the shiny side onto the quilt, the lines retraced with sublime pencil (by air, water) and then we slowly remove the paper.
- We sew by hand or by machine according to the pre-drawn lines. - We repeat the ironing as many times as required, freezer paper usually lasts for 10-15 repetitions,
then it might be necessary to create the template again. I recommend drawing always only 1 motive upfront since on some fabrics, the sublimation is so quick that you almost don’t have time to quilt the motive. Should you need bigger motives (e.g. over the boarders from three stripes) do not forget to place the motive in the center when copying.
