From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

5th Sunday in Lent: “or his sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ…” (Philippians 3:8). The first commandment says that we shall not put other gods before the Lord. Detaching ourselves from material possessions and considering them ”rubbish” does just that. It strengthens our relationship with Jesus and allows us to live more freely and joyfully.

QAC Operating Income Report Note: Operating Income includes regular collection, rental, and interest income.

Isaiah 43:16-21: The Lord is more than a powerful deliverer; the Lord is a provider, supplying in adversity the life-giving water without which no life is possible. The Lord is holy. But contrary to expectations, that holiness does not create an unbridgeable chasm between the divine and the human. This God is imminent, close by, on the lookout for Israel’s welfare, perpetually intervening in their lives to demonstrate a love beyond all imagining.

Philippians 3:8-14: Jesus has taken possession of us. Now we strive to live like possessed people! Possessed with the joy of pursuing the goal of eternal happiness. The way to that goal (as it was for Jesus) is through the cross. Paul makes clear, we have to be conformed to Christ’s death in order to be conformed to his resurrection. There is no other way!

John 8:1-11: This story demonstrates in a dramatic way the quality and extent of divine forgiveness and a good reminder of the difference between the sin and the sinner. Though the sin may be grievous, the sinner is always loved. Today’s story is a classic demonstration of why we are counseled over and over not to judge others...not so much because we shouldn’t as because we can’t. It is impossible to know the heart, the motive, the pain, the weakness, the struggle of another human being.

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week.

HUNGERING TO GROW A NEW TOMORROW: This week’s CRS Rice Bowl country is the island nation of Madagascar, where we’re reminded of the important role farmers play in caring for God’s creation. As we prepare our meals throughout the week, let us reflect on where our food comes from— and what role we can play in caring for our environment. Visit crsricebowl.org for more.

HUNGER SOLIDARITY CHALLENGE: Imagine you have only $4 a day for food – the national average “food stamp” benefit! Weavers of Justice, the social justice collaborative of Dayton-area parishes, encourages you to participate in a Hunger Solidarity Challenge any week in Lent. This effort helps to raise awareness of the challenges people on low incomes face as they struggle to avoid hunger, eat nutritious foods, and stay healthy with limited resources, Please include in your “allowance” all food purchased and eaten during the week ($28 per person). This includes dining out, food given to you, or food you already have at home. Stand in solidarity with those who are hungry throughout the Archdiocese of Cincinnati! Donate the money you save to CRS Rice Bowl, your church’s hunger program or food pantry, or the Dayton Foodbank. For more info, contact the Catholic Social Action Office, 937-224-3026 (x5018) or email [email protected].

A WALK FOR PEACE ANDJUSTICE ON GOOD FRIDAY – MAR 25th: The annual walk (held rain or shine) with its 14 symbolic stops begins at noon at the Old Courthouse at Third & Main Streets and moves through the east side of downtown Dayton. Participants reflect both on new and ongoing social justice issues. New this year are the social justice issues of welcoming refugees, particularly Syrian refugees, and income inequality. This is an ecumenical tradition in Dayton lasting about two hours and ending at the river by the First Baptist Church, 111 W. Monument St. and is sponsored by 29 churches, faith communities and social justice organizations, which include the Archdiocesan Catholic Social Action Office and the Dayton Hispanic Ministry Office, the Marianist Social Justice Collaborative, Sisters of the Precious Blood, and the UD Center for Social Concern and Greater Dayton Christian Connections.

LENTEN REMINDERS – FAST AND ABSTINENCE: Good Friday, Mar 25th, is a day of abstinence from meat and also a day of fast, that is, limited to a single full meal. The other Fridays of the season of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. The law of abstinence binds all Catholics 14 years and older. The law of fasting binds all Catholics from their 18th birthday until their 59th birthday.

ST. VINCENT DONATIONS: Bring any useable clothing to the chapel vestibule any Sunday or drop off in marked cabinets in the hallway near the Teen Room outside Si Lounge. February request: Protein bars and bottled juices (apple, cranberry, grape, etc.) made with all juice, please (no added sugars). Contact Margie/Tom Hudnell, [email protected], or 429-0320.

HANGARTNERS WORK IN MALAWI, AFRICA: Please pray for Thomas & Elisabeth Hangartner, who are in Malawi supervising the renovation of the Kaseye Community Hospital and training of hospital staff in the use of the x-ray equipment installed by the Wright State University Students in past years. They are also overseeing the scholarship program they established to help needy students. If you wish to donate to the non-profit organization the Hangartners founded to help raise funds for these projects, make checks payable to "Change and Be Changed" care of Chris Sitko or Jack Simpson. Another way to financially assist the Malawi Projects is by renting their condo in

ANIMAL TRUISMS A dog is the only creature on earth that loves you more than it loves itself. An aquarium is just interactive television for cats. Buy a dog a toy and it will play with it forever. Buy a cat a present and it will play with

the wrapper for 10 minutes. Cat's motto: No matter what you've done wrong, always try to make it look like the dog

did it. Dogs and cats instinctively know the exact moment their owners will wake up. Then

they wake them 10 minutes sooner. Dogs have owners. Cats have staff. Dogs believe they are human. Cats believe they are God. Dogs may shed, but cats shred. Don't accept your dog's admiration as conclusive evidence that you are wonderful. I hope to be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

VOCATION VIEWS

God continues to open a way for us. How is God doing something new in your life? Perhaps God is inviting you to be a priest or religious. (Isaiah 43:16-21)

Please pray for vocations to the lay ministries, priesthood, diaconate, dedicated religious life and dedicated single life.
