USSR had a COMMAND style GovtTherefore few personal freedomsIn 1987 Gorbachev relaxed a number of controls. (This relaxation of economic rules was called “Perestroika” (meaning restructuring).

Alongside “Perestroika” was a second reform called “Glasnost”.“Glasnost” (meaning openness) allowed the people of the USSR to have greater freedoms of speech, the press, and political parties.
