    Aloe vera

Aloe vera is celebrated for its varied pharmacological properties and therapeutic uses, one of which being a promising treatment for certain types of cancers. A systematic

review of Aloe vera had accumulated a good amount of data from extensive literaturesearch on dermatology studies and clinical trials and supports the use of Aloe vera as acandidate for photodynamic therapy of some kinds of cancer. [1]

Aloe vera also contains a substance known as 1,8dihydroxy![hydroxymethyl]anthra"uinone #or simply A$%, which has been proven to induce cell death among &'(cells #human bladder cancer cell line%. A$ has notable anticancer effects and inhibits cellviability while stimulating the arrest of )'*+ of the cell cycle. [']

BaptisiaFaptisia, also known as wild indigo, is a perennial indigenous to ew $ngland. As itthrives in dry soil, it does not grow around streams or in areas of high precipitation.Faptisia has a high polysaccharide content, which makes it an immunomodulator #itstimulates the immune system%. Applied topically, Faptisia soothes inflammation andreduces redness. Historically, Faptisia was used as a natural antibioticin the treatment ofboth internal and external infections. Herbalists and homeopaths continue to useFaptisia to treat a wide range of imbalances in the body. Faptisia promotes a sense ofmental clarity, motivation, and emotional wellbeing, all of which are seen as necessarycomponents in a holistic healing program.

As a decongestant for the lymph and other drainage systems, Faptisia is best preparedas an infusion or in a tea with complementary herbs. Ehole dried Faptisia herb can beprepared as an infusion, or the whole herb can be coarsely ground and brewed as looseleaf tea or finely ground and administered in capsules made of vegetable cellulose.

Although traditionally a mortar and pestle was used to grind the Faptisia herb, a coffeegrinder will suffice.

    &urmeric (%urcuma longa or %urcuma edoaria)

ative to the 4ndian subcontinent and =outheast Asia, turmeric has been used since

12 F@ by Ayurvedic physicians to alleviate the symptoms of allergies andinflammation, liver complications, and rheumatism. [1]As a medicine, turmeric is taken asa tea or as an ingredient in chai, the traditional 4ndian preparation of black tea.

&he component in turmeric with anticancer potential curcumin has been researched indepth. [1]4n clinical trials, turmeric proved to be effective in preventing colon andpancreatic cancers. [1]Ehile studies have been far reaching, few conclusions have beendrawn as to whether turmeric should be used to treat cancer.

4t is reported that curcumin induces apoptosis #cell death% of cancer cells withoutcytotoxic effects on healthy cells. @urcumin achieves this via suppression of the nuclearfactorkappaF activation pathway, the activation of nuclear factorkappaF being linked toa number of inflammatory diseases including cancer. [']0ecent studies indicate thatcurcumin might have anticancer potential. Ehen administered orally to rats, curcuminproved to be effective in preventing cancer of the skin, stomach, colon, lung, andbreast. [1]

According to an in vivo study in '1, the rodent specimens that were given curcumin asa dietary supplement throughout their life cycle showed a significant reduction inpotentially cancerous cellular activity as compared to those in the controlgroup. [1]0ecently, curcumin was determined to be a regulator of genes involved incancer formation in clinical trials, it was found to inhibit the migration of lung cancercells. [1]

&he idea that curcumin might inhibit cancer cell growth has prompted the formation ofsubse"uent hypotheses. +ost recently, curcumin has been studied for its potential totreat myeloma and breast cancer. [1]
