Skybox...of critical risks such as exposed vulnerabilities and firewall configuration errors.

“The box takes feeds anywhere from layer-3 up to layer-5, so routers, switches, IPS devices, etc. And from that, we have a very large dictionary of exploits and known vulnerabilities that we’ve built up over 10 years with the likes of Cisco, Juniper and Checkpoint, who are very large players,” explained John Quinn, Sales Director, EMEA Channels, Skybox.

From this, Quinn said, companies can ascertain where problems are, what effect the problems have, and how to remedy them. Organisations do this by using Skybox’s library

of exploits to send thousands of attacks, on different attack vectors, through their critical services at the back end, which illustrates where any problems may lie.

“People have spent a whole load of time on putting point products in place, whether it’s FireEye, Fortinet or Palo Alto, next-generation firewalls, IPS devices, anti-spam or anti-virus. Skybox gives them an understanding of what these things are actually doing, how they’re performing under pressure, and really giving them the Skybox view, which is all about understanding the battlefield,” Quinn said.

Already, the technology has

seen use in the Middle East. Though Quinn could not say exactly who, he said that a large regional telco had sought out Skybox in order to better understand its network.

“They rang us and said, ‘Look, we’re looking for a company that help us understand our network, where the vulnerabilities are within our network and what we would do to close them down and make it more manageable from a security perspective,’” Quinn explained.

However, the vendor largely sees the Middle East as a greenfield site and is hoping to make the best out of its recently signed distribution deal with Computerlinks.

ZTE launches fixed-line terminals at GITEX 2013ZTE Corporation has launched a range of fixed-line terminals and solutions at Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) 2013 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. During the event, ZTE also unveiled the E6500, a dual-band wireless router targeted at mid to the high-end home market and meeting a variety of home networking needs such as dual-band wireless access, high-speed Internet and download.

The E6500 features ZTE’s proprietary Net SphereTM seamless-coverage network technology. Used as a stand-alone device or together with ZTE’s mini access points (APs) and power line communications

driver’s l icences and national ID cards.

HD photo quality and encoded carding are among the new features.

Services managing the dai ly f low of ID card badge requests, large volume re-badging projects and combining mult iple technology platforms onto one credential have also been developed.

It has created a secure ‘One Card’ converged secure access solution for physical and logical

access control and cloud-based applications.

In the f ield of onl ine banking, HID has improved ‘Authentication beyond passwords’ technology, using risk-based authentication solutions using threat detection and transaction signing technology. It supports over 18 different authentication methods and the latest mobile operating systems for mobile tokens including iOS, Android and Blackberry.

(PLC) adapters, the E6500 allows home networks to be easily expanded and bypasses the problem of Wi-Fi signals being blocked by walls. A remarkable feature of the E6500 is that it can run concurrently at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands with a peak rate of 750Mbs to deliver a smoother network experience in high-definition video, online

gaming and other services. In addition, the E6500 provides five gigabit Ethernet interfaces running at 10 times the speed of traditional Ethernet interfaces.

“The quality of ZTE’s superior products and services has been further boosted by our long-time presence in the top-end operator market,” said Zhu Yongxing, ZTE Vice President. “We will maintain

our high standards in research, development and production to deliver a faster, smoother home network experience to end users.”

ZTE is a world-leading supplier of home networking products and offers three product families: PON ONTs, DSL & LAN CPE, and home networking devices. ZTE’s CPE products are the perennial industry leader in sales and shipments, and its ONUs/ONTs also command a leading market share. In 2013, ZTE launched a range of products, including wireless routers, portable APs and wireless PLC adapters, to help users build intelligent, green, wireless home networks.

business grade quality secured video collaboration.

“With this in mind, our focus at GITEX will be to highlight how Polycom’s solutions portfolio

can mobilise every aspect of work and bring the reality of mobile work styles to any business in the region.”

Polycom claims its Eagle

Eye Director produces “direct, intimate communication, and more productive meetings”, and that SmartPairing facilitates the use of a tablet in managing a video call.

Meanwhile its RealPresence Mobile offers the same quality mobile video streaming as that in the office.

Schmierer added: “We believe GITEX is an excellent gateway that gives us the opportunity to launch new products, address customer and partner inquiries and increase our visibil ity. Apart from exploring new opportunities, the exhibition will be a significant platform for us to further strengthen our brand awareness in the region and to emphasise our commitment in the Middle East through our continuous investments.”

GITEX preview: Agilent Technologies1) What is the main theme of your presence at GITEX this year?Agilent is well known for its high performance, high quality, and precision instruments. However, some customers have a perception that they have high prices. The theme this year is “high precision instruments within budget without compromise”.

2) Are you releasing/launching anything new at GITEX 2013? If so, what?Yes, Agilent is introducing its new portfolio of distribution preferred products like Handheld DMMs, Handheld Oscilloscopes, Bench- top DMMs, Function Generators, Oscilloscope and Power Supplies.

3) How is your company presenting itself at GITEX this year to differentiate it from competitors?Agilent has partnered with Prologix Distribution, its distributor for the GCC countries, to demonstrate its local presence with global support. Prologix Distribution has a wide network of offices and outlets in the GCC countries.

4) What are the key trends influencing your approach to GITEX 2013 and the offerings you are pushing? The Middle East region is one of the fastest growth markets

for Agilent. Though Agilent is the world leader in the Test & Measurement field, customers in the GCC countries are not fully aware of Agilent’s distribution preferred products portfolio. Customers for such products want immediate delivery,

competitive pricing and good post-sales support.

5) How have you seen the Middle East respond to those trends in question, and how did you think that will change over the next year?

We believe the test and measurement vendors are going to extend their presence in the region. Products will have to be stocked locally for immediate delivery. Repair and calibration services need to be provided locally without the need to ship the products to Europe and the USA. Sales and support staff would have to enhance their technical competence to provide world class services.

6) What are the key offerings you will be presenting at GITEX – sum up their key and unique features. Agilent is presenting its new portfolio of electronic test instruments, which are sold through its distribution channels. The prices of these products range from $100 to $25,000. These products are meant for installation and maintenance, research & development, production and for teaching. The target customers are the military, oil & gas industry, telecommunication operators, educational institutions and general purposeelectronic workshops doing installation and maintenance.

7) How important is GITEX as a platform and event to your organisation? We believe GITEX is a good platform for communicating with

Agilent’s potential customers. Though Agilent is participating in this event for the first time, we are optimistic that we would get good return on investment this year and motivate us to continue to participate in the coming years in this important event.

8) What is the top reason you invest in GITEX — do you see a healthy return on your investment, or is it more about presence/visibility?With our new portfolio of affordable precision instruments, our customer base has changed. We would like to use this platform to create the awareness of our new product portfolio to all the customers in the Gulf countries.

9) What does your company hope to achieve by appearing at GITEX 2013?We would like to achieve the Agilent brand awareness among the GCC customers who are looking for precision electronic test instruments at affordable prices. We believe the GITEX platform would allow us the chance to demonstrate the partnership with Prologix Distribution.

10) What are your company’s main recent achievements in the Middle East market?Agilent has maintained its global leadership position also in the Middle-East countries. By appointing Prologix Distribution as its distributor for GCC countries, Agilent has increased its customer reach.
