By CORINNE JAIYÍESOne of the best-known and, perhaps, bestloved personali-

ties on ca,mpus is Carl Rustigian, Fresno City College's bodyand fender shop teacher.

"Rusty," as he is known to his students, is described as a"real cool head." Many of the boys have told me, "Rusty takesa real interest in us kids; he+makes us feel Fe amoutrt to some-thing. lfost adults don't reallygive a big hoot about us kids. He'ssweII."

Rustigian was born in Boston,Mass., in 1916, where his family,inculding two sisters, lived until1918, when the family moved toCalifo¡nia.

ated from Fresno Technical HighSchool $rith a major in mill cabi-net. He immediately went to workas a cabinèt maker; his pay was30 cents an hour. Finding no fu-ture in this job, he went to workas an auto body repairman in1936.

In 1941 he entered the ArmyAir tr'orce, Ì¡orkint as a radiotechnician on the hea.vy bombersuntil 1943, when he was dis-charged. He 'then re-entered theauto 'body construction field antlsoon grew to like the work so wellthat he began to teach his fellowworkers'the intricacies of buildingcar bodles. This later lnfluencedhim to attend. college so that hecould. teach school formally.

In 1952 he took summer classesin industrial education at the Unl-versity of Callfornla's Berkeleycampus; he also attend.ed FresnoState College in the evenlngsdurlng the school year. He betanto leäch at Fresno Junior Collegein 1952.
