Windrixville, Oklahoma 1967Johnny and

PonyBoy two “Greasers” become heroes!

While an elementary school was on a field

trip to a church in Windrixville, the church

suddenly burst into flames. Luckily the

teachers and students were outside. While

the firemen and police officers were

evacuating the area, the teachers realized

that there were still students missing. They

then heard screaming coming from inside

the church. The two brave teens Johnny and

PonyBoy could not be contained. Johnny

punched the window with his fist and dove

thru it, PonyBoy followed. All the children

were rescued safely. However this story

does not have a happy ending. Johnny was

severely injured when a falling beam fell on

him breaking his back. PonyBoy escaped

with bruises and minor burns, thanks to his

denim jacket. Which protected him from the

heat and flames.
