ttLast weeks Area Schools Tournament at Maniototo was a huge success for our students.

Not only did they compete eagerly they set and achieved a standard of behaviour thatwas outstanding. They represented the school with real pride from the outset.

    Chronology of the Tournament:

Wednesday - a two and half hour bus journey.......students in high spirits- a brilliant welcoming assembly at which each school (Catlins,Waiau, Roxburgh, Twizel, Lawrence and Maniototo) performed adance routine - a good icebreaker putting everyone on an equalfooting.- three hours of full on sports: Touch, Basketball, Squash and Indoor

bowls. Merran Casse was unbeaten in Squash, taking 1st place.Eden Wilson and Ellen McCraw bowled to glory beating a SouthIsland Champion on the way. We had high hopes in Basketball butcould not get traction at all.- 4.30pm saw the end of the day with students heading off with billets.

Thursday - a full on day with Curling, Netball, Ultimate Frisbee, IQ Challenge,Futsal and Rugby. At the Naseby Curling Rink our students didbrilliantly with our top team placing third (behind the two Maniotototeams). Our Futsal did likewise dipping out in the semi finals (apenatly shoot out). IQ Challenge is something we pride ourselves

on - but pride comes before a fall, beaten into second place 95 to 93by Twizel. At Ultimate Frisbee our team got better and better. Ourrugby boys combined with Roxburgh to win the day. In Netball weturned-a-corner beating nemesis Catlins in the semis. The final wentto Roxburgh but our team can be proud of their result.Thursday night, a social was held, an outside observer would swearthat the students come from one, not six schools as everyone joinedtogether to have a great time.

Friday -everyone was tired but lifted to put in a great final effort in volleyball, mixed netball and mixed hockey. Whilst not coming out as winnerseach of these teams meet with success through the excellent attitude

and commitment to Fair Play.At 12.30pm we assembled to say our farewells and Kelly Tweed spokebeautifully on behalf of our school, thanking the hosts and wishingall students well. We were thrilled to have Ellen McCraw and JJHoupapa-Barrett named as Most Valuable Players, an honourthoroughly deserved. We were equally delighted to have: Kelly Tweed, Brooke Cameron,Merran Casse, Kylie Lyders, Abby Cameron and Nadia Lyders namedin the SAS team for nationals at Whangaeri - Congratulations.

It was a feel-good tournament, friendships made and renewed, fierce competitionbalanced with fair play, six schools combining as one, hosted fabulously well byManiototo Area School.

    Kind RegardsJohn Auld

    1. To inform bus drivers and initiate the ringing list.2. To inform Staff

There is a desire to create a town phone list - if parents would like to beproactive in this regard we would be happy to assist.
