One of the great spiritual laws in the bi-ble is the law of sowing and reaping.You know that law that your mum oryour dad often yelled at you when youdid something that they didn’t agreewith, “if you do that Scotty you going to

reap a whole lot of pain.” It’s a spirituallaw that over the years has caused awhole lot of controversy in the churchdue to over the top prosperity teachingand conservative poverty teaching. Onegroup believes in the abundance of Godand that if you give $5 in the offeringGod is obliged to multiply that back intoyour bank account by a multiplication of100. The other believes that God createdus to be poverty stricken and that to bea true Christian you should not have an-ything and walk around in the sameclothes for a year. Wow it is so attractiveisn’t it, where’s the form sign me up!

Okay, I’m being a bit facetious, but oneof the problems we face in the Christiancommunity is that if someone is a bitradical and it doesn’t gel with our way ofthinking we throw out the baby with thebath water and we rob ourselves of notonly the blessing of God but also thepossible abundant plan and future thatGod has for us as an individual and alsoas a church.

Now, if we go back into the book ofGenesis, the first chapter we will findGod speaking creation into being.The bible tells us that there waschaos going on and so God spokeand brought order to everything. Hespoke and there was light, He spokeand there was land and so on... Eve-rything was done in such an orderthat the next thing that was createdwould survive. Can you imagine ifGod had of said “My first creation is

going to be wheat”, and He looked allaround for somewhere to plant thewheat only to remember from natureclass that wheat needs some dirt anda bit of sunlight, “Whoops light first

and then some dirt.” God does, lives,moves with purpose, everything in itsright place. And here is the point.When God gets up to creating theplants, the animals and humans foreach one He says multiply.

We were created to be fruitful, to mul-tiply ourselves, not just in the physi-cal sense but also in who we are. Ourideas, our passions, our desires, ourbeliefs. If we are not this way inclinedthen we are failing to carry out one of

the greatest commands in the bibleand that is to multiply.

What is it that we should be accom-plishing in this church and individu-ally? We should be sowing seed andreaping a harvest. It is the right thingto do. It’s in God’s order.

What is part of our vision for thischurch? To give birth to a newChurch. This is the natural order ofthings, this is the way God intendedfor the church to be, that it would notjust become an enclave for peopleto settle down in. (check out thegreat commission Matt 28) God in-tended every church to grow to ma-turity and then multiply, give of itsself and create new life. Now I don’tknow the whole history of our churchbut I have to ask the question, havewe ever given birth, have we multi-plied. If we have praise God, but ifwe truly haven’t then we are barren.

Good news though. I read in the bi-ble that God has a way of taking areally old, barren, wrinkly thing andmaking it fruitful. We may be old, butGod is not done with us yet. Will youpray that God would give us wisdomin how and when this is to be done.For His Glory alone. This is exciting.Amen.

Every day be thankful for what you have& who you are.

Even though I clutch my blanket & growlwhen the alarm rings, thank you Lord thatI can hear. There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes closedagainst the morning light as long aspossible, thank you Lord that I can see.There are many who are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed & put offrising, thank you Lord that I have thestrength to rise. There are many who arebedridden.

Even though the first hour of eachday is hectic, when socks are lost,toast is burned, tempers are short &my children are so loud, thank youLord for my family. There are manywho are lonely.

Even though the breakfast tablenever looks like the picture inmagazines & the menu is at timesunbalanced, thank you Lord for thefood we have. There are many whoare hungry.

Even though the routine of my joboften is monotonous, thank you Lordfor the opportunity to work andprovide for my family. There aremany who have no job.

Even though I grumble & bemoanmy fate from day to day & wish mycircumstances were not so modest,THANK YOU LORD, FOR LIFE.
