MK14C6-componentinternalstrain-gauge balance, itsrelated

dummybalancefortheBoeingSonicBoomTestintheGRC8x6WindTunnel.The
loan
periodshallbefrom 5July2012through17
September2012.Thisbalancewillbe usedasthe
PrimaryTestBalance.
2.FinancialLiability
TheNASASupersonicsProjectacceptsresponsibility for repairingor
replacing
thebalance and associatedequipment
shoulddamageoccurwhileinourpossession(this
includesallmechanicalandelectricalaspectsofthebalanceincludingthetaperandouter
sleeve).TheSupersonicsProjectunderstands
thereplacementcostofabalanceis
approximately $250Kandrefurbishmentcostsvarywidelydepending on
thedamage (e.g.
cable repairs/replacementscan be$2Kor
greater,flexurereplacementscan be$20Kor more,
andfullrecalibrations ofbalanceafter repairsare made can be
inthe orderof$25k).
3. ItemsRequested
Balance -Thebalancetobeloaned shallbe theAmes1.00"
diameterMK14C6-
componentinternalstrain-gauge balanceequippedwitha29-foot,
permanentlyattached cable
terminated intaper pins.Each balance bridgeiswiredwith
fourwires(apair for excitationand
a pairforsignal)-thereareno independentsenselines. Also,
allfourthermocouplesare not
working.Thebalance waslast calibratedatTriumph in March2008.

CheckLoadHardware-The check load
hardwareassociatedwiththe1.00"MK14Cbalance will also
bepartoftheloan.This willconsistofa 1.00" calibration body,roll
arms,relatedfasteners,
andabalance-to-calibration-bodyrollpin.
DummyBalance-The loaned
hardwarewillalsoincludeone#6672dummybalance.
4. StaticandDynamic LoadingLimits
The balanceloadswillbemonitoredso asnot
toviolateatheoretical-infinite-life
criterionforthebalanceby limitingthe staticanddynamicloadsto
values determinedbythe
Ames-providedModifiedGoodman diagramfor
the1.00"MKI4Cbalance.
5.ObjectiveEvidenceoftheStateofthe Balance
Amesshall supply "as shipped" mechanicalandelectricalinspection
report sheet
withthebalance.TheSupersonicsProject shall supply
toNASAAmessimilar"as shipped"
mechanicalandelectricalinspection report sheet upon the return
of the balance.
