The Foundry Golf Club
The Foundry’s original design, a collaboration between J.K.
Timmons and Buddy Loving, opened in 1990. McDonald &
Sons Design Group completed renovations in 2009. The
club rests on one of the most naturally stunning properties
in Virginia. Rolling terrain, native vegetation and scattered
rock outcroppings combine with the meandering banks of
Fine Creek to showcase the Piedmont countryside.

Format/Schedule
» Each club divides its four players into two four-ball teams, and the club’s
total score is determined by adding the two four-ball scores together.
» Club teams are comprised of amateurs and up to one professional per
team.
» Clubs can enter multiple teams, i.e., The Foundry ‘A’ and ‘B’ squads.
» Three sets of tees will be used; regular, senior (50-64); and super senior
(65-plus).
» Two shotgun starts: one at 8:30 a.m. and another at 1:30 p.m.

throughout the day, and a full recap can be found at the end the day at
vsga.org.

Teams to watch
The Foundry’s 2017 championship squad
returns mostly intact, save for one change.
Ralph Reahard replaces Kenneth Cocolin in
the lineup and will play along with Jay
Woodson. Starell Cox and T.J. Austin will
again partner for four-ball for The Foundry.
… Woodson is one of three past State Open
of Virginia champions teeing it up in the
VSGA Club Championship. Ryan Zylstra,
who won the 2017 Delta Dental State Open
of Virginia, will lead The Federal Club’s “B”
team, along with Frank Wood, Bobby Moore and Chris Hinchcliff. Rick Schuller, the 1998 State Open champ, leads Stonhenge’s
team. … Two Rivers Country Club’s “A” team features two VSGA champions from 2017: Senior Stroke Play champ Dave Pulk and
Super Senior Amateur (65-69 age group) champion Mike McDonald. … Three clubs have entered at least three squads in the cham-
pionship. Kinloch Golf Club and The Federal Club have three teams competing, while Cedar Point Country Club entered four
squads. … No club has repeated as champion since Hanover Country Club won back-to-back titles in 2004-05.
