Product Safety. Caterpillar has been andcontinues to be proactive in developingmining machines that meet or exceedsafety standards. Safety is an integralpart of all machine and systems designs.

SAE and ISO Standards. The 793Dis designed to many national andinternational standards.

Integral ROPS Cab. Resiliently mountedto the main frame to reduce vibrationand sound, the integral ROPS structureis designed as an extension of the truckframe. The ROPS/FOPS structureprovides “five sided protection” forthe operator.

Ladder/Secondary Egress. A wide, stationary stairway allows easy accessto and from the machine. The ladderon the left side of the machine permitssecondary access or emergency egress.

Brake Systems. Four corner oil-cooledbraking system provides excellent controlin slippery conditions. The servicebrakes and retarding system are actuatedby modulated hydraulic pressure, whilesecondary and parking brake functionsare spring applied and hydraulic released. This system assures braking in the eventof complete hydraulic failure.

Steering System. A twin double-actingcylinder steering system is designed todeliver precise control under all loadingand underfoot conditions. The steeringhydraulic system is separate from themain hydraulic system to prevent cross-contamination and overheating fromother sources.

Engine Shutoff Switch. A secondaryengine shutoff switch is located atground level.

Electrical System Disconnect. A batterydisconnect switch, located directlyabove the front bumper provides groundlevel lockout of the electrical system.

Overload Policy. Safety is integral tomaintaining the highest productivityin mining machine operation. The Caterpillar 10/10/20 OverloadPolicy assures that steering and brakingsystems have sufficient capacity toperform, even at 20% overload.

Standard Safety Features.
