Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) Course

MASL P171410 ECL 80 Offered: 7 times per year Duration: 5 weeks Prerequisites: officer O-3 to O-4 This course prepares safety officers at the squadron level to assist commanding officers in conducting an aggressive aviation

accident prevention program. When the Squadron Safety Officer (SSO)/Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) completes this course, he will be able to organize and administer an accident prevention program at the squadron level. Students will be involved in a fast paced course consisting of eight hours or more of classroom work per day. Subject matter includes: aerodynamics and structural analysis for accident prevention, safety program management, accident investigation and reporting techniques and requirements, aviation medicine, physiology and human factors, and safety law.

Aviation Safety Officer (ASC) Command Course

MASL P171411 ECL 80 Offered: 7 times per year Duration: 8 days Prerequisites: officer O-4 to O-5 This course indoctrinates aviation squadron commanding officers, executive officers, officers in charge, officers screened for command and major aviation staff safety officers, in the policies, philosophy, and techniques of an effective command safety program. Students will be involved in a fast paced course consisting of eight hours or more of classroom work per day. In addition to the classroom presentations, students will be required to read course materials and prepare written reports to be presented to the class.

ASO Command Course Eligibility International students must be equivalent to U.S. O-4 and above or equivalent assigned as commanding officer/prospective commanding officer, executive officer, or major aviation staff officer at a naval/marine corps aviation unit. Any exceptions and requests from other services or organizations shall be submitted through NETSAFA and approved by the Director, Naval School of Aviation Safety.

ASO Course Eligibility Special Note International students must be U.S. O-3 and above or equivalent assigned to a naval/marine corps aviation unit. Any exceptions and requests from other services or organizations shall be submitted through NETSAFA and approved by the Director, Naval School of Aviation Safety.
