Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. Greetings to you all 2017 Camps: All our school camps are now completed for 2017. Thank you to the many people who helped in any ways. The huge parental support was really appreciated. Without this support we would not have camps. A huge thank you to all staff who spend a great amount of time planning and preparing for camp. A successful camp happens because of the work that goes on before camp even starts. Due to the wet weather, the Year 5 and 6 trip to Tiritiri Matangi Island has been put off until Term 4. The children’s writing has reIlected how much they all enjoyed the camp. Swimming Pool: Due to the cooler weather we have stopped swimming every day. The senior children have been told to put togs in their bag, and if the weather is suitable and it works in with the classroom programme, the children will get the opportunity to have a swim in the afternoon. The swimming pool will close on Thursday 13 th April. Please return all school keys as soon as possible. Hi Everyone! A quick reminder – we have the PTA AGM on Tuesday night – 7pm in the staffroom. All Welcome! Come and see what we are all about- there will be food! I have had a few people contact me interested in the chicken section for Pet Day – if you are interested but have not let me know yet, please do, as we don’t yet have enough of a response to go ahead [email protected] or 0212275344. We will have more information to hand next week regarding next term’s Battery fundraiser – keep an eye out which family members, friends, neighbours use AA and AAA batteries the most who would like a great deal while supporting our school! OTAMATEA MARAE Year 3 and 4 Camp 2017

One Wednesday the Year 3 and 4’s drove in a car to the Marae. We learnt about Māori. On the first day we walked to the beach. In the water it was sharp so we had to move very slowly because it was very sharp. The next day we drove to Batley beach. After that we walked back to the Marae. On the way back some kids found crabs and rocks. I was freaked out. I picked up a crab. It nipped me! We saw a dead eel and stingrays. They were stinky and smelly. The next day we had lunch and guess what we had for lunch? We had yummy rolls. I made my one. I wanted another one but we weren’t allowed. That night we had a concert. All of the shows ere cool and funny. Even my one. My favourite one was the teachers. At the end I was tired and drowsy. By Danielle Fergus - Year 3, Room 9

At the Otamatea Marae, we were super lucky to have Whaea Mina staying with us. She brought along her guitar so that we could sing songs. We also learn’t the Poi and heard about some amazing stories. Thanks Whaea Mina!!

Other rotation activities that we were able to participate in on camp were: Rakau sticks - we learnt how to communicate with a partner and tap the rakau stick to the beat of the song e papa waiari with Miss Haddow. String games - Mr A taught us lots of tricks and games to play with a piece of string. We had to concentrate and think really hard about what we were doing. Fry Bread - Miss Neal taught us how to make fry bread, we even got to eat it afterwards. It was delicious!
