Modern atomic model with nucleus and electron cloud

Ways to identify

atoms

Atom Particles

Electrons have a negative charge.

Protons have a

positive charge.

Neutrons have no charge.

Isotopes are elements that have the

same number of protons but different

numbers of neutrons. In normal atoms

the protons and neutrons are equal in number.

Models are visual representations

developed from experimental

evidence that help scientists see and

test theories. Atoms are too small to see under a microscope.
