Name: ____________________________________________

Hello and welcome to Pre-AP Geometry! In order to be successful in a Pre-AP Geometry course

at the high school level, a student needs to be proficient with the material covered in Algebra I.

This packet highlights those skills obtained in Algebra I that are used most often in Pre-AP

Geometry as well as basic geometry topics learned in middle school math course. During the

school year, other Algebra I-based skills that may not be covered in this packet will be

necessary for success in Pre-AP Geometry class, but this packet should serve as a guide to the

skills considered most vital. It is recommended that incoming Pre-AP Geometry students

complete this packet during the summer and review it prior to entering their high school

geometry course in the fall. Additionally, links are included to assist with tutorials should they be

needed.

We will go over questions you may have over the material in the first few days, and will be given

a Major Test over the information in this packet during the second week of school. This will count

as your first major grade for Pre-AP Geometry. The grade you score on this test will be an

indicator of how prepared you will be for the rigor of this course.

Pre-AP Geometry moves at a fast pace, requires memorization of formulas, definitions,

theorems, and postulates as well as other information throughout the course. Homework is

assigned every night and reviewing class notes daily is expected. If you are not committed to

this rigor and dedication, then this level of class may not be for you.

The Pre-AP Geometry team looks forward to meeting you and facilitating your success through

Pre-AP Geometry!

82. What is the meaning of the word geometry?

83. What was measured with the earliest use of geometry?

84. What Egyptian monuments still stand today after 4, 00 years and are considered as

“masterpieces of straight-line geometry?” What geometric shape lead them to develop

the calculations needed to create the monuments?

85. Identify the 3 most common types of geometry taught in schools today.

Page 16: Summer Prep Packet - LCISD

86. How many books did Euclid write and what were they called?

87. What two things did Euclid focus on using the make mathematical statements?

88. What do mathematician call statements that have been proven to be true?

89. What is another name for the coordinate geometry and who was it named after?

90. Identify the three types of transformations demonstrated in the video. Also, determine

what a possible fourth transformation could be such that it would create similar figures

instead of congruent figures like the three already named types.

91. Define the meaning of conjecture.

Part 11: Reflection:

After completing the packet list three math skills you feel you still need work

on and three you are confident to complete.

I still need work on……… I am confident about……….
