ABSTRACT

Training is the continuous process and an act of increasing the skills and knowledge of an

employee for performing a particular task or work in the organization. The main objective of training

is to achieve a change in the behavior of the trainees. It can be viewed as a systematic planning

process which has its organizational purpose to impart and provide learning experience which helps

in achieving organizational goals and objectives. The training programme should mould the attitude

of worker toward other co-workers, supervisor and the organization. It must also create in them a

sense of responsibilities, interest in their job, and appreciation of enterprise’s goals and policies.

Effective and efficient training programme lower the employees turnover, absenteeism, stress in the

organization and helps in higher productivity, higher quality of work in low cost and improvement

and enhancement in motivation and self confidence of employees to perform a specific task or work

in the organization.

INTRODUCTION

Skill enhancement programs are focused around training that combines the best practices

from education, psychology, social work, career counseling, sports, and technology training.

Through skill training a person can improve their overall performance in any identified area and in

so doing can improve the overall quality of life. Skill enhancement or training typically uses a

combination of cognitive and behavior problem solving approaches, both of which are used to

strengthen a person's positive skill development. There are generally four parts to effect training in

specific skill enhancement: assessment, skills program construction and selection, implementation,

and feedback/evaluation.

NEED FOR THE STUDY

In today’s global HR practices a competent workforce underpins the success of the

organization. It is credit that staff possess the knowledge, skills, attitude and competencies required

for the optimism performance recognizing the training and learning needs necessary to equip staff

with the capabilities required to contribute to business success and programme in their career. Today

most of the organizations improvise employee’s performances through effective training and

learning. ITC is conducting massive training programmes to their employees for all round

development.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Training enhances skills, knowledge, attitudes, competencies and ultimately worker

performance and productivity in organizations. Many organizations engage in training and

development of its staff and also have departments, units and sectors that cover training and

development. ITC Pvt limited is one such organization that practices training.

SAMPLING METHOD

The convenience sampling technique is used to select the employee respondents from ITC-

Chirala and ITC-Anaparti Units.

SIZE OF SAMPLE

The sample size was 560, made up of 18 managers, 42 Technicians, 29 office clerks, 22 supervisors,

11 Attenders, 19 watchman, 280 class-A workers, 139 class-B workers. The sample size of 560 was

small for the kind of study intended but time and financial resource constraints made it imperative to

restrict the sample to that size.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

1. to assess the extent to which the training has enhanced the knowledge & skills of the employees.

Hypothesis:

1. Training has cumulative effect on enhancing knowledge and skills among the employees of the

select organizations to a large extent.
