Web Services Basics -- Approval Requested

• Web Service -- A set of functions (request/response) that can be accessed remotely using TCP/IP as the transportation medium.

• SOAP – Defines the format

• XML – text-based, is the fundamental element• Directory – list of available ‘services’ (data types, or

definitions of what data is available as defined)

• WSDL – Describes the web service itself • HTTPS – Already in place, the standard ‘highway’ for

secure data transmission

Search for ESIID in:Ø Static HTML pages within ERCOT.COM and its associated web sitesØ Report Explorer for report types for that ESIIDØ Service links that may serve that ESIID (if any)

The search engine will index q All static HTML pages within ERCOT.COM. The returned data will be displayed to the user as links to the HTML pages. All data here is public so search results

will be same for all users. q MIR metadata for each of the report type based on report type name and Description. The data will be identified as public or secure or certified and then indexed

by accessibility to Market Participant using DUNS number. This data will be returned back to the user as links to report explorer showing a specific report type. Only the links to report types accessible by the market participant the user belongs to will be shown. All users within the market participant will have the same search results regardless of their role.

q Any service link that may launch a service based on name, description and accessibility to the service roles. The returned data will be displayed to the user as links to the service application. Only the service links accessible by the role of the user will be shown.
