2. President’s Report Ian WallaceSeason 2013–14 started with the opening of our renovated pavilion on our main ground at Victoria Park. Thanks to the Boroondara council for our facilities, which are amongst the best in sub-district. ShaneCosstick, our curator, again did a great job with our wickets and the outfields were excellent.

The highlights of the season were the 150th celebrations at Green Acres golf club and the 2nd XI finallywinning the flag. Steve Whitelaw and his assistants did a great job with the 150th and we all had a greatnight. My personal highlight was the table with Cec Austin, Alan Fanning and Ken Jeans and theirfamilies. They all played in our 1954–55 premiership side and Cec and Ken made our team of thecentury.

Nick Padbury led the 2nd XI to a well-earned flag in the grand-final at Plenty Valley. The 2nd XI havebeen strong for a long time so it was nice to win a grand-final. My thanks to all our supporters whoturned up to the game so that we outnumbered those from Plenty Valley.

We lost our captain coach Francis Gill halfway through the year due to a transfer to Darwin with work.Obviously this was a big loss for the 1st XI and Daniel Gledhill stepped into the role and did a good jobfor the rest of the season. I would like to thank Francis for his time at Kew. He has been a fantasticplayer, coach and person and we hope to have him and Jess back with us again in the future. The loss ofanother four players from last year’s 1st XI and a couple of injuries meant the 1st XI struggled after abright start. The 3rd XI also struggled with no consistent captain during the first half of the season andchanging personnel. The 4th XI finished on top after a great home and away season with a good mix ofkids and veterans. They were disappointed to lose both finals. Our two veterans’ teams once again had agreat time. Both teams were competitive and narrowly missed finals. Thanks to Tim Corney fororganising it all and captaining the second team. The Hatch team was well coached by Dylan Roberts andfinished top of North group before losing in the semi-final. The team was mostly players from our verystrong Kew Junior Cricket Club club. The midweek team made up of juniors and seniors is helping toform a close bond with our juniors and thanks to all the senior players who helped out with coaching.

Thanks to Sabrina and Rob for our wonderful afternoon teas and to all the others who helped out whenthey weren’t there. Colin Cust and Bruce Bennett were again the best club umpires in sub district.Vaughan Roberts did a great job as secretary and scorer for the 1st XI and his iPhone scoring app, whichprovides live 1st XI scores on our web-site, is much loved by supporters who aren’t at the game. BernieAnderson did most of the entering of scores for the other XIs and his efforts are much appreciated. Thesocial committee was well led by Mark Akrigg and most functions were enjoyable and well attended.

We have lots of parents, wives, girlfriends and children down at the club every week and I would like tothank them all for their support. We have a much better database of past players now due to the 150th

celebration so next year we are hoping to have some past players and sponsors days. To all our sponsorswe thank you for your generosity and encourage our members and supporters to continue to support you.

3. Treasurer’s Report Colin CustThe financial year resulted in a surplus of $6,606 compared with $3,660 last year. This was an excellentresult with the return to the main ground pavilion for social activities improving the financial returntogether with a strong sponsorship campaign.

For the next two years Cricket Victoria is reducing their allocation to the club to $8,000 per year.Thereafter the dividend is likely to cease. We received a one off $4,000 grant from Cricket Victoria aspart of the payment of $8,000 we were required to make for the pavilion renovation

The Committee aims to maintain a balance of at least $60,000 in invested funds to ensure the continuingviability of the Club. Interest earned on invested funds is a major contributor to the operating surplus.

4. 150th Anniversary celebrations and the Team of the CenturyOn the 22nd February this year the Kew Cricket Club celebrated 150 years since the first formation of aKew Cricket Club with a gala dinner held at the Green Acres Golf Club. Over 150 people attended thisspecial evening to mark this important milestone.

The evening was a great success with past and present players all mingling together and sharing storiesabout their time and experiences at the club. Radio stalwart, Graeme ‘Smokey’ Dawson, did anoutstanding job as Master of Ceremonies for the night and was ably assisted by past player BernieHickey.

Kew premiership players and long serving officials in the crowd were acknowledged as were our Testcricketers including Colin Guest and Jeff Moss who were present. A standing ovation was reserved forthree members of our 1954–55 premiership team who were in attendance, Ken Jeans, Cec Austen andAlan Fanning. The highlight of the evening was the announcement of Kew’s Team of the Century fromits Twenty Best Players of all time.

4.1. Report on our partnership with the City of BoroondaraThe City of Boroondara, with some financial assistance from the Kew Cricket Club, funded a majorfacelift of the pavilion on the North oval at Victoria Park which was finished for the start of the season. We have been lucky in recent years to have had a very good curator, Shane Cosstick, looking after theovals in Victoria Park and he has consistently provided some of the best conditions for playing cricket ofany grounds in the VSDCA. He has often produced a very flat wicket on the north ground with goodpace and bounce. The summer grass conversion of the outfield several seasons ago is now very wellsettled and the Santa-Anna couch results in a considerably faster outfield than other varieties of grass andso provides batsmen with full reward for good shots.

The renovation of the pavilion was a direct outcome of the Victoria Park master plan process. All of thetenant sporting clubs were involved on this committee and we appreciated the opportunity to provide ourinput along with the rest of the Kew community to this great sport and recreation facility in Boroondara.I would like to thank a stalwart of the Kew Cricket Club, John Doyle, for all his work and time as ourrepresentative on this committee.

We now have a stylish pavilion which will enjoyed by the Kew Cricket Club for many years into thefuture. Some of the benefits are:1. The removal of the house at the north end of the pavilion has greatly improved the access to the

pavilion for the players.2. The large spectator veranda now provides an excellent shaded viewing area which is heavily utilised

on game day by both the players and spectators.3. Finally, especially given the extremely hot weather that sometimes occurs during the cricket season,

we are thankful that we can now offer the opportunity to players and umpires to rest and recover inthe air-conditioned social rooms during afternoon tea.

I would also like to particularly thank David Nankervis of Boroondara council, who stoically listened to alot of energetic discussion about the pavilion from all of the sporting clubs during the constructionprocess.

6. First XI Report6.1. First XI Captain’s Report Daniel GledhillSeason 2013–14 was a difficult season for the mighty Kew CC 1st XI. In what started out brilliantlywinning the first 3 games out of 4, we started to stumble a bit which was expected to happen after losingsome experienced players from the season before in Ben Waterman and Ben Cookson. Some really solidperformances early in the season by new boy Tom Kerr, who got us out of a huge hole several times withsome hard fought innings, really showed a lot of the other boys how to dig in. Steve Baldwin wasoutstanding opening up and really demonstrated how a solid pre-season can help in reaping rewards outon the ground. Steve had 263 runs with 3 half centuries after 5 rounds before his season was cut shortwith a knee injury. Ross Suri, an Englishman trying to learn the Australian form of the game, was clearlyour best bowler all season long, as he continually trundled in up the hill in the heat giving his all.

The season was interrupted when our coach Francis Gill moved to Darwin for work, and we lost not onlyour Captain/Coach with plenty of experience but our opening bowler and number 5 batsman. I washonoured to take over the role from Francis after Christmas and after doing a mini apprenticeship (7games) I tried not to change much after Christmas and told the boys to continue to stick to our plans andour game style we had under Francis.

I was really appreciative of the way the boys supported me in this role and our plan to get some gamesinto the younger brigade who we hope can lead our club in the future. I believe there were manypositives to come out of the season even though our ladder position was not as good as this great clubshould come to expect.

We blooded several youngsters like Seb Contos who made his 1st XI debut in round 1 against Brightonand also played a pivotal role against Preston after Christmas when we were 6/62, Seb batted beyond hisyears to turn the strike over with Tim Stewart and was able to help us to a competitive total.

Tim Stewart’s cricket came on in leaps and bounds during the season, after a fantastic pre-season where Idon’t think he missed a session he was rewarded with a 1st XI game in round 1. Although Tim may nothave taken as many wickets as he would have liked, I believe the full season of 1st XI cricket will be verybeneficial for him in the future. Tim also managed to compile a very handy 181 runs in the lower orderand also helped to get us out of many sticky situations. Jack Cubley arrived at the club this season thanksto Kelly Masters and after playing a couple of games in the 3rds he was quickly pushed up into the 2nd XIwhere he got some good experience under his belt and was rewarded with his 1st XI debut in our lastround game against Ivanhoe. Jack batted really well and combined with this seasons coach JustinGraham to help build a competitive total. Jack made a fine 30 and proved to many that he is a kid for thefuture and we will no doubt see a lot of Jack in the 1st XI in the near future. Ryan Baker came back froma shoulder injury after Christmas and it was as if he never left, bowling fantastically and really become areliable wicket taker and at-the-death bowler.

I would personally like to thank the committee for giving me the opportunity to lead this great club andgain the experience that I hope will be beneficial for both the club and me in the future. Gilly for takingme under his wing and informing me of all the details I need to know (realising how much work thecoach actually does). Bags, Padders, Pieran and Sisty for their ongoing support at the selection table.Vaughan for his scoring, updating of scores and basically reminding me of things I had forgotten. Theplayers for their support during the changeover from Gilly to myself, Wallo, Col and Browny for theirsupport every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, if I ever asked for anything they always come up with thegoods.

Season 2014–15 will be a very exciting season for the club, as we have already managed to sign newcaptain/coach Justin Graham who will bring us a wealth of knowledge and experience from district levelclub Melbourne. We have also been lucky enough to sign former Victorian state opening bowler StevenGilmour, who at the age of only 27 is going to be massive, not only for the 1st XI, but for the club as awhole. The club really needs to build from this platform and jump on board with Justin as there is veryexciting times ahead for us.

Go Kew Boys!

7. Second X1 Report7.1. Second X1 Captain’s Report Nick PadburyThe 2nd XI entered the 2013–14 season wanting to improve on their previous years result of beingbundled out of the finals in straight sets. It was therefore a tremendous result and a reward for hard workand persistence that they were able to win the North/South Premiership that had eluded them for so manyseasons.

The off-season saw the retirement of a number of quality experienced players such as our two openingbowlers from the previous seasons, Rodd Baker and Simon Ross, and also David Reid our openingbatsman. Despite this we entered the season confident that we still had the depth and motivation to onceagain strive for that elusive Premiership.

With a number of positions in the team up for grabs it was really pleasing that many of our younger guyssuch as Lachie Marshall, James Wilkinson, Ed Furey, Seb Contos, Liam Ritchie and new player JackCubley took their chances at various stages throughout the year and showed that they were definitelycapable of making an impact at this level and hopefully in higher grades in the not too distant future.

At the conclusion of the regular season, we found ourselves sitting 2nd on the ladder with 10 wins, 1 drawand 2 losses. Although our final ladder position reflected a strong year I think that most of us wouldprobably agree that our season was best described as being a mixed bag. Firstly we struggled to field aconsistent team due to many factors such as injury, school cricket, unavailabilities and promotion to the1st XI. In fact only 1 of the 24 players that represented the team played every game.

Although we continued to win games it was really on the back of some individual performances atvarious crucial times of the matches that enabled us to get over the line. Some of these notableperformances included:

Mark Akrigg 5/62 vs MalvernMatthew Bernet’s remarkable 105no against Kingston Saints when he came in at 4/14 and steered usto victory chasing only 113. Matty was the only player in the team to reach double figures and thescorebook makes for some interesting reading.Nick Padbury 5/40 vs BrunswickLloyd Devlin compiling a flawless 124no against CaulfieldMark Akrigg 5/52 vs Caulfield

It wasn’t until we reached the finals that the team finally clicked and we were able to produce some of ourbest cricket of the year.

Our quarter-final was to be played at home against local rivals Balwyn who had comprehensivelydefeated us only a couple of weeks earlier. After losing the toss we were surprisingly asked to bat onwhat was a typically good Kew wicket. Our batsman finally clicked and we were able to reach 6/327with Lloyd Devlin 91no, David Bratby 62 and Matthew Bernet 56 the leading contributors.

We were obviously happy with our score but knew there was work to be done as Balwyn had posted asimilar score against us just weeks earlier. Our defence started well with an early wicket and from thenon we continued to bowl one side of the wicket, which made scoring difficult for the opposition. Finallywe were able to bowl Balwyn out for 237 with the competition leading wicket taker Mark Akrigg taking5/107 from his 24 overs.

Our semi-final was against the only other team that had beaten us during the year in Brunswick. Thistime we won the toss and once again elected to bat on another flat Kew wicket. However within 20 minsit appeared that this had been a terrible decision as we were reeling at 4/25 due to some terrific bowlingfrom the Brunswick openers. Our finals campaign appeared doomed to end a week earlier than what wehad all hoped.

Enter Nathan Bernet and Michael Westland who dug their heels in and fought their way to a gutsycentury partnership. Michael Westland’s innings came to an end when he was caught behind for 52 and

we found ourselves still in a precarious position at 5/130. Matthew Bernet joined his brother and the twoof them continued to dominate the bowling as they also made a century partnership. Eventually ourinnings came to a close at 6/301 mainly due to Michael Westland’s (52), Matthew Bernet (63) and aremarkable finals innings from Nathan Bernet who ended up on 125no.

Defending another imposing score we again started well and had Brunswick 3/25 with Iain Stewart doingsome early damage. However as the wicket flattened out the Brunswick batsman started to score morefreely and we realised that we had some serious work still left to do. Mark Akrigg and Michael Westlandcontinued to do what we had done well all year and bowl tight lines and soon the required run rate was10+ an over. It took us to the 77th over to finally take the 10th wicket with Mark Akrigg taking 3/82 off27 overs, Iain Stewart 2/34 off 9 and Michael Westland 2/72 off 19.

Our Grand Final was to be played at Yarrambat against top of the ladder side Plenty Valley who we hadpreviously beaten by 1 run earlier in the regular season. This time we lost the toss and were made to bowlon what appeared to be another relatively flat wicket.

Plenty Valley started solidly and it appeared that we could be in for a tough day, however opener LachieMarshall struck twice in the space of a couple of overs and we were back in the game. The momentumwas beginning to move our way and a change to slower bowling on a pitch that suited us quickly changedthe complexion of the game. From 3/97 Plenty Valley slumped to be all out for 143 thanks to aremarkable spell of spin bowling from Mark Akrigg who ended up with 5/16 off 19 overs. Mark wasably assisted by Lachie Marshall 2/42 off 16 and Nick Padbury 3/26 off 17.

With a victory target of 144 the long awaited 2nd XI Premiership was within our grasp and a solid startfrom our openers saw us end day 1 on 0/18 with a full day to play on Sunday remaining.

The following day the openers continued their solid start and we reached 33 before we lost our firstwicket. From then on things started to crumble as we quickly lost another 5 wickets due to some goodbowling and fielding from the Plenty Valley side. At 6/77 with another 67 runs still to win we alwaysknew that there only needed to be one solid partnership within the innings that would get us over the lineand luckily this came from Michael Westland (44no) and Nick Padbury (35no) who took advantage ofsome loose bowling and they quickly put the pressure back on the Plenty Valley bowlers. In the last overbefore the tea we finally reached our target of 144 and the 2nd XI Premiership was finally ours.

It was a great reward for many of the 2nd XI players who had been playing regular finals cricket over thelast few seasons with nothing to show for it. We were very grateful to the many KCC supporters whocame out to help get us over the line and help celebrate the victory with us.

In closing I would just like to thank the committee in particular Colin Cust and Robbie Brown for all theirtireless work and support around the club. Without these two tireless clubmen we would struggle to playeach week and it is something that none of us take for granted so we thank you enormously.

I would also like to thank the people who helped throughout the year such as Duncan Borley for hissupport along with his dinner preparation every Thursday night and Vaughan Roberts for keeping us onthe straight and narrow with regards to Umpires reports etc. To our regular supporters in Hugh Wilkinsonand John Gilham and the wives and partners of the players, we also appreciate your support and help withteas at various stages during the year.

I would also like to thank Francis Gill for all the work that he has put into the club over the last few yearsand to Daniel Gledhill for his support after taking over from Francis halfway through the year.Additionally I would like to thanks the senior members of the 2nd XI for their support and advice and Ilook forward to next season where hopefully we can defend our Premiership.

8. Third X1 Report8.1. Third X1 Captain’s Report Piran ReitzeAfter tasting the success of a premiership last year, backing up in season 2013–14 was always going to bea great test for the 3rd XI. Unfortunately for the team our season never really got going, finishing with therecord of three wins and a draw from our thirteen outings.

This was largely down to a massive change to the makeup of the squad with more than half of lastseason’s premiership XI moving on to play at a higher level. It was fantastic from a development point ofview to see those players getting their chances and as a result the number of younger players coming in tofill their boots. With around ten boys under 20 getting their first tastes of 3rd XI cricket this season theexperience will no doubt set them and the club up for stronger seasons in the future.

The presence of club stalwarts in the side aiding the development of the younger players was the mostpleasing aspect of this transition. The team really benefitted from Scott Jacobs and Jim Armstrongshrugging off retirement to come and help us out as well as the constant presence of Peter Langtry. As aplayer who was not long ago a young member of the team I can appreciate the value of having such goodmentors directly available for youngsters to learn from.

As a team the 3rd XI struggled to bat out a full innings, which was not necessarily down to a lack of skillin the team but often comes back to its inexperience. Lots of players managed to get themselves in andmake a start but across the season were seldom able to go on with it and build a partnership. It washowever extremely encouraging to see the likes of young Aston Keys, Dean Mastras, Jack Dawson andJack Cubley all start to spend some time in the middle and not look out of place.

This seasons batting was led by Ed Furey who amassed 258 runs for the season at an average of 32 – theonly batsman to hit over 200 for the season. Other notable contributors were Matthew Anderson (159 at27) and Matthew Headberry (157 at 14).

Two of our batsmen hit centuries this season:Ian Aitken 106 against Broadmeadows, Round 2Ed Furey with 100 against Plenty Valley, Round 11

Our bowlers shared a similar fate to our batsmen with a lack of consistency really hurting our ability toput pressure on our opposition. It was, however, an encouraging sign to see that the majority of ourwickets were shared around across the team.

Jack Dawson led our wicket takers with 23, ably supported by Matthew Headberry, Harrison Shannon-Brown, Peter Langtry and Scott Jacobs who also took over 10 wickets for the season. Other notablecontributions:

Scott Jacobs 6/42 against Balwyn, Round 12Jack Dawson HATTRICK against Broadmeadows, Round 2

To summarise although the results didn’t materialise for the 3rd XI in season 2013–14 there is a lot to likeheading into next season. The amount of improvement shown across the team last season and the amountstill left to come points to a really exciting time in 2015. The gained experience, combined hopefullywith increased continuity at the selection table keep the possibility of continuing our trend of the past sixyears: winning a premiership, missing the finals then winning again well and truly alive.

To finish I’d like to thank Colin Cust and Bruce Bennett for their consistency as club umpires, as well asthe whole of the committee for the tireless work they put in behind the scenes. Thanks again to Bags andcoaches Francis Gill and Daniel Gledhill for your ongoing support and the opportunity to lead the sideagain. Also a sincere thank you to those who stepped in, especially Peter Langtry, whilst I was overseas, for their efforts in leading the squad and their support through the back end of the season. Finally to thosefriends and family who make the trips out to watch us play and help us out on game day, thank you andwe look forward to your support again next year.

9. 4th XI Report9.1. 4th XI Captain’s Report Peter SistIn terms of win/loss ratio, the Kew 4th XI had a very successful season. We finished clear on top after thehome and away season having been beaten only once. Looking back on the statistics we got off to goodstarts consistently, due mainly to the efforts of Ian Aitken and David Crock, who has become a very goodopening bat. Both players scored in excess of 400 runs and averaged over 40. Unfortunately, no otherbatsmen in our team could boast this consistency.

Having said that, several cameo innings by a number of players including Dean Mastras, Phil Hyde, JimXenos, Josh Mannix and Lucas Agnoletto, resulted in us being able to post good enough targets orenabling us to chase down totals.

Our bowling was probably the strong suit for us as a team. Myles Scott, an Under 16 left armer alwaystook wickets at the onset and he will be a future player to look out for. Josh Mannix also providedaggressive fire-power with the new ball. Older heads in Ian Aitken, Jim Xenos and David Crock couldalways be relied upon when thrown the ball and each of these players took bags of five wickets during theseason.

Peter Langtry was a god-send for us this year. His knowledge of the game and his ability to impart thisonto our younger bowlers directly impacted on most of our wins. His bowling was also impeccable.Another stalwart of the Kew Cricket Club, who was a great addition to our team, was Jim Armstrong.Jim was often the rock around which we built our scores and his positivity and encouragement on theground created a ‘fortress’ like environment when we were in the field.

Fielding, particularly catching was a main let down for us and will be a major focus for us at both pre-season and during general training next season.

I would like to thank vice-captain Jim Xenos and Phil Hyde in particular, for their on and off fieldleadership and assistance. Their ‘good cop, bad cop’ attitude on the ground often created a wicketopportunity and confused the hell out of even the most experienced opposition player.

To be blown out of the finals in straight sets was unacceptable and thoroughly disappointing. To be a partof the development of many young players, however, was not. Players like Aston Key, Sam Harden,Lachlan Bangs and the guys mentioned above will all be pressing for selection in higher grades nextseason. This will force everyone to get better and help our great club achieve the ultimate success itdeserves – a 1st XI premiership.

In conclusion, I would like to thank all of the players for their support who played 4th XI cricket thisseason and the Committee for giving me the privilege of captaining this side.

11. Veterans 2nd X111.1.Veterans 2nd XI Captain’s report Tim CorneyThe 2013–14 season saw the Vets 2nd XI consolidate its position in C grade after winning the flag in Dgrade the previous season. Retirements in the Vets 1st XI saw a number of players promoted from the 2nd

X1 which made room for some new players to come into the side. The season was an up and down affairwinning as many as we lost and abandoning one game to rain and having to move another to Xavier dueto an unplayable wet wicket. All in all, the season could be described as solid finishing the season onegame out of the finals after a consistent season.

Finishing just outside the final 4 was an excellent effort considering the loss of a number of key top orderplayers to the XIs. However the new additions have brought a renewed depth and everybody thoroughlyenjoyed another season with no significant or long term injuries to report!

There were a number of significant individual performances throughout the season. The bowlingaverages were won by P Douros who, despite a dicky knee, bowled very consistently all season. Thebatting averages were won again by D Cronin who was the standout batsmen, not only for Kew but forthe whole competition - being chosen again, for the third season in row, to represent BHRDCA in theinter competition side. The all-rounder award was this year won by A Makowski who came second inboth the batting and the bowling averages and was a very consistent and enthusiastic in the field.

We look forward to continuing our success in C grade next year and the bedding down of new players.Once again we thank the club - committee, coach and players for their support and comradeship over theseason. We are all looking forward to season 2014–15!

12. Hatch XI12.1.Hatch XI Coach’s report Dylan RobertsWith a talented group of young players who were eager to work hard and learn, Kew’s U15 Hatch Shieldteam had a campaign which saw the club reach the final four of the thirty-two team competition.

The team was undefeated in their North Group, the only blemish coming from a forced draw with PlentyValley due to weather conditions, with a comprehensive win over Balwyn CC (3/124 off 23 overs chasing121) providing a team highlight in the group stages. This match saw some impressive individualperformances such as Callum Abrahams taking 2/11 of 6 overs and Charlie Simondson making 58 runs inswift fashion. Charlie provided a number of impressive individual performances to share the award forthe best player in the North Group, scoring 215 runs @ 53.8 with a high score of 70 against Coburg.

Possibly the most rewarding win of the group stages came at Preston in Round 4. The team produced afantastic effort in the field to restrict a strong Preston team to 88 runs off 39 overs – five bowlers tookwickets and the team recorded three run outs. Unfortunately the team slumped to 5/69 with very littlebatting to come, however a determined 7th wicket partnership from Andrew Seal and Kynan Kett (wholater lost his wicket) saw us prevail in the last over of the day to finish at 8/90 off 45.

Another of the standout performers was captain, Josh Mannix, who produced the best performance from aKew player for the tournament in Round 2 against Ivanhoe – finishing with 3/28 off 9 overs and scoring85 runs in a strong victory. Josh scored 185 runs @ 61.67 in the Group Stage and took 9 wickets @ 18.5.Josh also had some strong performances in the 4th XI for the seniors, taking 7 wickets @ 16.0 and havinga top score of 77* against Williamstown.

With Charlie Simondson unavailable for the first two weeks of the finals the teams batting depth wastested. We snatched victory in the first final against Yarraville at Victoria Park with Angus Dowling’s56, Josh Mannix’s 2/14 of 7.4 overs and two suicidal run outs from Yarraville the only things saving usfrom defeat. The following week in the preliminary final we had our most disappointing performance ofthe tournament, being bowled out for 60 against Bayswater and only claiming one wicket in defence –unfortunately a lot of the boys were off their game at the same time.

While not winning the Shield, the tournament was a successful one for the group who as a whole matchedtheir ability with their performances – special thanks to Hugh Wilkinson who was our stoic scorer forevery game of the tournament.

13. BHRDCA Twenty/20 – C grade Jim XenosFor the second year running, the Kew Cricket Club and the Kew Junior Cricket Club entered a combinedsenior and junior team into the BHRDCA T20 competition for the 3 home and away games.Unfortunately it was a mixed set of result this year with a 4 run loss in our opening game againstNunawading however it must be said that we played their Senior 1st X1 and that result was more thanadmirable. Game two saw the combined Kew side play Koonung who had two “ring-ins”, non-other thanJack Riewoldt and Brett Deledio, two Richmond Football Club stars. In the end they proved to be thedifference scoring 31 and 41 respectively allowing Koonung to reach 6/156. In the run chase Kew fell 34runs short ending up 8/122 with Lucas Agnaletto scoring 36 and being awarded with the signed matchball by Jack and Brett. Game three was a cracker, Kew played Forest Hill. Kew won the toss and electedto bat posting 153. In reply Forest Hill came out swinging however the bowling was tight led by Jacob dePavia, Myles Scott and Callum Abrahams. They say there is no substitute for youth and there was nobetter demonstration of that than Angus Dowling’s effort in the field. Forrest Hill required 9 to win offthe last over and Angus was involved in 3 last over run outs. His athleticism was amazing turning certain2s into run outs keeping Forrest Hill to 149. Great final game result when you consider we had 8 juniorsrepresenting Kew Seniors.

There is nothing more pleasing than seeing our junior players apply their craft to senior ranks and give ittheir best which they have shown is more than good enough. It is obvious we have very capable andtalented juniors of which the senior players themselves speak extremely highly of. The senior playersembraced our juniors at every opportunity and loved playing with them through the year. A huge thanksagain to all the parents that continue to sacrifice their time and allow their kids to play as many seniorsgames as possible through the season. The juniors will play a big part in shaping the result of the Kew 4th

XI finals campaign so I encourage all junior members to come along and support. With a bit of luck allgames will be home games! We look forward to seeing more new faces at senior games in the 2014–15season!
