The investment in summer camps, community gardens, creative arts programs, and homeless ministry will provide great exposure to various components of urban ministry. Phoenix Day Trip (Habitat for Humanity / Antioch Community Church)

This trip provides a unique opportunity to participate with several vibrant organizations

already at work right here in our own city! Habitat for Humanity envisions a world where

everyone has a decent place to live. We will help this vision become reality by working on a

home with the direction of a Habitat for Humanity supervisor. We will also spend time

working in one of their donation centers to help families in need achieve their dreams. One of

the days we will also visit Antioch Community Church for worship and Biblical training on

evangelism. We will then put that training into action by walking onto the ASU campus to tell

students about the love of Christ!

Cost: Free (Covered by tuition) Dates: February 26 (Monday morning) to March 2 (Friday evening) Group size: 25 – 30 people For more info: https://habitatcaz.org/ http://antiochphx.com/

Las Vegas, Nevada (Youth With A Mission)

Youth With A Mission calls this week long trip their Mission Adventure Experience (MAX). As a Mission Adventure team we will have the opportunity to minister in music, street evangelism, the sharing of testimonies and practical ministry work. We will find ourselves in a variety of settings including block party evangelism at a local park, ministering to the homeless in the inner city, and “Viva la Worship” (a music focused outreach on the famous Las Vegas strip). Due to the recent tragedy in this area, many people are aware of how fragile life can be and are hopefully more open to hearing about their need for a Savior. We won’t go to watch the missionaries do the work, we will become the missionaries! Cost: $ 325 Dates: Depart PHX - Sun. February 25 Return PHX - Fri. March 2 Group size: 20-25 people For more info: http://ywamlasvegas.org/

Alabama (SCORE International) Eutaw, Alabama is a small town where over 35% of the population lives below the poverty line. We will join SCORE International in this area which is their longest established community outreach program. We will be involved with after school programs, community work projects, and even help throw a block party in the government housing development. A smaller component of this trip will also be for our basketball teams to encourage the local community. We will do this by putting on a basketball clinic and possibly playing a few expo games. SCORE has also asked us to raise support in order to give new shoes to the local team. This trip is recommended for both the boys and girls basketball teams, but all students are welcome to sign up. Cost: $ 700 Dates: Depart PHX - Sun. February 25 Return PHX - Fri. March 2 Group size: 25-30 people For more info: https://scoreintl.org/

Rocky Point, Mexico* (1 Mission) - Drive trip

We will be building two houses for families living in poverty. These families earn a home by

serving 200+ hours in their community. On day one, we will pour the foundation, build the

walls and build the roof. On day two, we will put up all of the walls and roof and put on the

first layer of stucco and roofing. On day three, we will put the second layer of stucco and

roofing, and put in the door and windows. On the final day there will be a key ceremony in

which we hand over the keys to the family, give them a Bible and pray for them. To celebrate

the completion of building this house we will spend the rest of that day relaxing at the beach.

Our final day will be spent in the community visiting the sites where the families have earned

their service hours (community center, community garden, etc.).

Cost: $200 Dates: Depart PHX, Mon. February 26 Return PHX, Fri. March 2 Group size: 30 – 40 people For more info: http://1mission.org/

11th- 12th Grade Trips

Yucatan, Mexico*

Valladolid is a Mayan city located roughly 90 minutes by car from Cancun. It is home to Centro

Medico San Lucas – a private hospital with four operating theatres and a thriving clinic that

serves a large catchment area in the central Yucatan. Valladolid is known for its tourism –

being centrally located to several Mayan ruins, hundreds of cenotés (underground lakes), and

centuries-old churches.

Each morning will begin at 7am with breakfast, Bible study and worship with the entire team.

Each day the students will be assigned to their service team – the medical team entering the

hospital to evaluate and treat patients in the clinic and perform surgery in the O.R. The

humanitarian team will serve locally (e.g., painting, remodeling a playground, or building a

water purifier pump in a nearby Mayan village). Each evening the team will reconvene for

dinner - glorifying God for the events of the day. The team will also spend a limited amount of

time getting to know the history and geography of the region – including visiting stunning local

Mayan ruins and the Cenoté Dzitnup.

Students will have the opportunity to step out of their comfort zones – taking histories from

patients, performing physical examinations, participating in surgeries and the recovery of

patients, speaking Spanish, praying with patients and their family members, sharing their faith,

leading devotions, and leading worship. Many lives are changed on every trip to the Yucatan!

working with children in nearby schools and kids clubs. We will also be putting on a carnival for

these local children which will include games and a whole lot of soccer. We will also work with

the local homeless population, distribute Bibles to people in the community, and support the

women’s ministry by putting on a beauty salon. There also may be some light building

projects based on the needs within the local community.

Guatemala* (Students International)

The mission of Students International is bringing students and the poor together cross-culturally to encounter God, share the Good News, disciple and serve others in occupational ministries. The vision of this trip is to see students and the poor transformed into the likeness of Christ and discover their true calling. This team will be sharing the love of Jesus in the communities of Magdalena and El Gorrion, just outside of Antigua.

Each team member will stay with a local family along with one or two other students from our team. Students International has dozens of occupational ministry sites where we will work alongside a full time missionary as we participate in long-term projects. The team will be together in the morning and the evening, but during the day each student will choose one of these ministry sites where they will serve throughout the week: health care, education, veterinary, creative arts, carpentry, special education, media, micro-finance, social work (women only), or sports.

Nicaragua* (Young Life)

Young Life began ministry in this impoverished Central American country in 1988 and since has seen tremendous growth in terms of kids involved, trained leaders, full-time Nicaraguan staff and camping ministry. Today, more than a dozen Young Life clubs exist in six cities throughout the country. La Finca, the national youth camping property, has been in operation since 1994 and annually hosts more than a thousand Nicaraguan campers. Our group will serve on various construction and renovation projects at La Finca, including helping harvest coffee crops grown on the camp property in support of the local ministry. La Finca is located in the central mountains, about 30 minutes from Matagalpa, where the majority of the Young Life work exists. Cost: $1,400 Dates: Depart PHX - Sun. February 25 Return PHX - Sat. Salt Lake City, Utah (Utah Partnerships for Christ)

Our experience in Utah will help us understand what we believe, why we believe it, and how to articulate our faith to others. In the past several years, students from SCA have seen the Lord reaffirm the profound foundations of their Christian faith and inspire them to compassionately and boldly be an ambassador for Christ in both word and action. Our mission trip to Utah will involve about 70 % prayerful, intentional interactions with those of the Mormon faith and 30% supporting existing churches and ministries by doing various types of community service. We will also be sure to enjoy some sledding and maybe a Utah Jazz basketball game. Our experience in Utah will cause us to be eternally grateful for God's grace and mercy in our lives as born-again Christians.

Volunteer Involvement

It takes many hands and hearts to make SCA’s Mission Week a success. It starts with prayer, it

is sustained by the work of the Spirit, and it requires the participation of people giving their

time, talent and financial support. Please consider ways to be involved:

• Pray! Support our Missions Week through prayer on a school wide basis. Stay tuned for

more information and ways to participate.

• Chaperone! Additional volunteers are needed on our teams. If you are interested,

please contact Jared Utterback for more details ([email protected]).

• Support! Give financially toward a student or this program. Every dollar makes a

difference in the lives of our participants both near and far. Donations are given online

to specific students via their Managed Missions profile or checks may be made payable

to SCA. Students will write their own support letters and creating fundraising

opportunities is also highly recommended.
