April showers
bring May flow-
ers! Here in Ba-
varia the
weather is
warming up and
Alpha Detach-
ment is taking
full advantage of
it. Missions are
still in full force
and the Outlaws
continue to
serve the rede-
ploying Soldiers
as well as the
ones headed
down range. En-
during the low
staff and heavy
work load, the
Outlaws still
manage to over-
come and en-
gage in military
courses. During
this month al-
pha Soldiers
have partici-
pated in CBRN
(Chemical, Bio-
logical, Radio-
logical and Nu-
clear defense)
and WLC
(Warrior Leaders
Course). Back at
the office, busi-
ness is running
as usual and
customers are
being assisted in
any and all fi-
nance ques-
tions. No matter
how busy the
Outlaws be-
come, the mis-
sion of making
soldiers happy
always comes
first. One of our
soldiers wel-
comed a new
family member
into the world,
adding to the ex-
tended Outlaws
crew. As the
month carries
on so does moti-
vation and cohe-
sion of Alpha De-
tachment.

The Outlaws serviced the Soldiers of
412th Aviation Support Battalion and
3rd Battalion (Airfield Operations),
58th Aviation Regiment located in Ans-
bach over several weeks. The Outlaws
conducted SRP missions. The units
were preparing to go to Afghanistan
and to Poland. The Outlaws gave and
briefed on one day and returned later
to check over all of the Soldiers entitle-
ments.

SHARP Denim Day

The Army has made a stand that sexual assault and
harassment are not acceptable within our ranks, and
we are doing everything we can to stop it. April has
been named sexual assault awareness month. During
this time Alpha Detachment did extra training learning
the do’s and don’t when a SHARP situation arises, and
further training to prevent SHARP situations altogether.
On Thursday, April 24th The Outlaws participated in
Denim Day. This day was not a treat to make the Out-
laws feel comfortable and relaxed, the issue is very se-
rious. In honor of a rape case in the 1990’s that was
overturned due to the victim wearing tight jeans the
Outlaws came to work in denim jeans. The Army is com-
mitted to ensuring that everyone involved in a SHARP
case is given a fair and accurate trial.

Heat and CLS Training On Thursday May 1st the Outlaws conducted
training on Heat Injury Prevention and CLS
casualty care. The climate is always changing
and the soldiers need to properly adapt them-
selves in their work area. Therefore, our de-
tachment sergeant conducted the Heat Injury
Prevention training to prepare Outlaws to fight
the heat. We learned the importance of staying
hydrated everyday, wearing appropriated
clothes on warm days, and signs of heat injury.
If prevention is inevitable and a injury does oc-
cur, Alpha Detachment learned the manifesta-
tion of a heat injury to a heat illness. The class
SSG Barron conducted gave basic treatments
to aid anyone effected by the heat. With the up
coming summer and rising temperature, the
Heat training will come in handy and save
lives.
SPC Stephens, Joshua welcomed a new
child into the world. Julianna Jo Stephens
was born on April 25th 2014, at 20:44 in
Amberg, Germany. She was 9 lbs 1 oz
and 21 inches long. She had to stay in
the NICU for a few days because of low
blood sugar, but was released on the
27th to be taken home. Both Julianna
and Alexandra (Stephen's wife) are
healthy and doing well now. She is the
fourth child for Alexandra and Joshua.
Isabella (5), Benjamin (3), and Nicholas
(1) are very excited to be welcoming their
new baby sister into the family.

Once again the Alpha Detachment par-
ticipated in the ASU inspection. On May
2nd, the Outlaws exchanged their every-
day uniform for the decorative ASU’s. As
part of the Knight’s activities, PT was
running the famous Netzaberg Hill. Its
difficulty is equal to a 5K uphill. Upon
completion of PT, SSG Barron meticu-
lously examined each uniform for
proper wear and appearance. After the
formation was dismissed, the Outlaws
returned to their regular duty stations
and continued to wear their ASU’s for
the remainder of the day.

As part of being a Soldier it is important to
qualify with your rifle. On May 8th, the out-
laws both grouped and zeroed with success.
Using 18 rounds or less, the Soldier must
achieve two consecutive shot groups within
the 4-centimeter circle on a 300 meter tar-
get 25 meters away. Once the M16 is prop-
erly zeroed and the sights aligned, qualify-
ing with pop-ups is next. It is required to de-
tect and engage targets at distances ranging
from 50 to 300 meters. Alpha Detachment
excelled at all 3 fighting positions, each
qualifying marksman or higher. “I love going
to Qualification, I makes me feel like a real
Soldier.” said SGT James when asked about
her experience.

On May 14, USAG Grafenwoehr hosted a Retiree
Appreciation Day. Retirees all across Europe
gathered in Tower Barracks for dental and
health checkups, legal advice, ID card renewal
and other services. The Outlaws showed their
support of the retirees by opening their cash
cage doors early. PV2 Hobbs serviced the veter-
ans with a smile. At the cash cage, they were of-
fered to cash checks and exchange USD to Euro.
The CST was also available for any questions re-
garding financial services. Alpha Detachment is
grateful for the retirees long years of service and
were honored to aid the veterans.
