COBRAS, October continues to be an extremely busy month for the team. With the beginning of the Fiscal Year our focus shifts to completion of mandatory training/readiness requirements. Furthermore, the unit will be sending a team to Africa in support of Operation United Assistance. I would like to recognize some outstanding Soldiers who exemplify the Cobra values. SGT Cheruiyot was recognized this month as the 16th Sustainment Brigade Safety Warrior of the Month. SGT Cheruiyot noticed that the fire extinguishers in the barracks were expired and were not replaced due to a supply shortage. Yet, his persistence, attention to detail, and unyielding care for Soldier wellbeing led to the fielding of new fire extinguishers in every barracks room. SGT Cheruiyot’s actions are testament to the caliber of NCOs in Charlie Detachment. Amongst our junior Soldiers, I want to commend SPC Ayoade for scoring above a 300 on this month’s Army Physical Fitness Test. Lastly, I want to thank each and every one of you for all that you do—you push me to be a better Soldier, Leader, and Commander each end every day. Do not take this experience for granted; not everyone gets to live overseas and experience Italian and European cultures. Continue to be safe and vigilant of your surroundings as you travel. Everything that you do reflects upon the readiness of this unit. Take pride in doing the right thing even when no one is looking. I commend you all on your dedication and motivation that continue to drive us forward. “LEAD FROM THE FRONT, NEVER QUIT”

CPT ANDRES LEON

COBRAS, The middle of September through the start of October has been a fast paced couple of weeks for us. For starters, we ramped up for the 106th FMSU Field Training Exercise in Grafenwoehr, Germany. Charlie detachment received several training opportunities. Upon return from the field, we once again ramped up in order to support a real world mission. CPT Leon, SGT Cheruiyot, and PFC Khatiwada set out to provide financial management support. As we enter the new fiscal year, we are ready to tackle all our mandatory training, and ensure that we remain in compliance. Charlie detachment was well represented out in the field. We were the first to arrive in the field, enabling us to establish our work site, as well as ensure proper functionality. Our NCOs' SGT Cheruiyot and SGT Acosta played an instrumental part of the ammo detail, as SGT Acosta worked around the clock shuttling Soldiers back and forth from the ammunition holding area. SGT Cheruiyot maintained 100% accountability of all our Soldiers and that they were in the correct uniform at the right time. We were presented with fantastic training opportunities, while at the annual Field Training Exercise. We were able to receive an in-depth class into the FMTP and fully inspect and learn what is actually contained in the FMTP system. Furthermore, we got great MRT training, allowing us to catch-up on a huge training opportunity. This provided over half of our detachment with current mandatory MRT training. Charlie detachment led the charge on all range details, as we provided maximum support no matter who was in charge of the range. We all worked together as one true team! Currently, we have some of our Soldiers deployed in support of a real world mission. We know they will be out there making the 106th FMSU Shine. Send your battle buddies an email or Face book message to reach out to them, and let them know they are in our thoughts. Let them know what is going back on the home front, as they may have limited internet connectivity. Lastly, I want to commend all of our NCO's for ensuring all our Soldiers are in compliance with the new FY 15 mandatory training. This is a true testament of how Charlie detachment, "Leads from the Front and Never Quits." Continue to ensure that we are coaching, teaching, and mentoring our Soldiers as we set of towards new paths. “LEAD FROM THE FRONT, NEVER QUIT” SFC SANTOS, MELVIN H.

New roles and challenges

for these newly promoted

NCOs

Congratulations to SSG

Stephenson!!

Congratulations to

SGT Killion!!

September was all about FMSU FTX, a novel experience for most of the Soldiers.

What I enjoyed the most from my experience in

the field was our Detachment Cohesion.

Throughout the challenges in the FTX we

maintained ourselves as one team. We as finance

Soldiers don’t get the chance to shoot too often,

but during the FTX we were able to shot M-16,

M-19, M-203, M-249 and even MK-19. It was a

great experience and it helped us become better

Soldiers. SGT Acosta

Though I wasn’t looking forward to the

FTX for obvious reasons, the experience

was a rewarding one. The command team

played a big role in keeping the Soldiers on

their A-game and motivated. Working

together in close proximity on several tasks

enabled us to build more on our team work.

Compared with non-Hispanics, cancer rates

among Hispanics are lower overall and lower for the

major sites – lung, breast, prostate and colorectal.

There are 1.1 million

Hispanics veterans of the

U.S. armed forces .

The U.S Hispanic population now stands at over 54.1 million making them the nation’s second largest racial or ethnic group. They make up 17% of the U.S. population; up 5% from in 1970.

Sept. 15 was chosen as the starting point for

the celebration of Hispanic Heritage

month because it is the anniversary of

independence of 5 Latin American countries:

Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras

and Nicaragua.

Worst nuts for your diet

Macadamia Nuts; Pecans

Ounce for ounce, macadamia nuts (10 to 12 nuts; 2 grams protein,

21 grams fat) and pecans (18 to 20 halves; 3 grams protein, 20

grams fat) have the most calories—200 each—along with the lowest

amounts of protein and the highest amounts of fats.

However, they're still good nuts: The difference between these and

the lowest calorie nuts is only 40 calories an ounce. As long as

you're practicing proper portion control and not downing handfuls

at a time, any kind of raw, plain nut will give you a good dose of

healthy fats and nutrients.

Cobras, I am excited to be in Italy and a part of the Cobra Family! A little bit

about me. Prior to joining the Army, I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from the University of Florida (Go Gators!). I worked in the financial/service industry, during this country’s recent recession. The financial crisis presented firsthand experience of organizational change. From this, I developed a passionate interest in problem solving and leadership.

In 2009, I enlisted in the United States Army. I took what I learned from the business world and applied to the military. In 2011, I served in Operation Enduring Freedom, serving as the adjutant to the Battalion Commander. I was selected for the active duty Green to Gold Option, midway through the deployment. I was fortunate to attend a top tier graduate school, Florida Institute of Technology, as a student and Cadet. I commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on May 2nd, 2014, and received a Master of Business Administration.

I believe in working as one team to accomplish our mission. I am a strong proponent of bettering oneself through education. I am an avid football and basketball fan. I enjoy running, biking, basketball, and tennis. Again, I am excited to be a Cobra and my door is always open to talk!
